Chapter 79: On the Mountain Over There
Adonsa merely swung its three tails like meteor hammers, and its six sturdy legs began to run.
The Martial Voids shouted and lunged forward, trying to halt Adonsa’s advance.
Adonsa stomped the ground with force—its weight of over ten tons made the earth tremble like a spring mattress, causing everyone to involuntarily leap into the air.
Among the Fighters, there is a fundamental principle: “Power rises from the earth,” meaning that no matter how great one’s strength, it must be grounded to be fully unleashed.
At the moment when all their centers of gravity faltered, Adonsa’s massive body ejected countless vicious parasites, which, with the force of sniper bullets, drilled into the Fighters’ skin, burrowing deeper as they gnawed madly.
If these had been ordinary Fighters, they would have panicked, tearing at their flesh in desperate attempts to extract the parasites.
But the Martial Voids existed for nothing but battle and cultivation. They merely tensed their muscles to slow the parasites’ invasion and charged forward without hesitation.
On Adonsa’s back, a purple flower bloomed, launching a barrage of tentacles. Each tentacle was covered in minute, nearly invisible barbs, saturated with proteases designed specifically to break down human tissue—within ten minutes, a person would be reduced to bare bone.
Even with the Fighters’ superhuman constitutions, too many stings would leave them gravely wounded.
Only after these two waves of attrition did Adonsa reveal its true killing move.
A Fighter, driven to madness and fully beast-like, slashed at Adonsa’s hide with razor-sharp claws, carving three deep gashes—yet he failed to penetrate even the fat layer. In an instant, a supersonic bone hammer shot from beneath Adonsa’s belly, shattering his skull.
Another Fighter thrust an iron spear into Adonsa’s body, only to have his hand charred black by the high-voltage current generated by electric eel cells; wracked with convulsions, he was then smashed in the chest by a tail hammer and lay dying.
Such was the advantage of massive size—even the sharpest blades and spears were reduced to toothpicks when plunged into Adonsa’s flesh, rendered trivial by its formidable regenerative power.
Moreover, Adonsa’s various systems had evolved beyond the limits of carbon-based life, now incorporating heavy metals and inorganic elements. Its explosive power, perhaps not quite comparable to heavy hydraulic machinery, far surpassed that of ordinary Fighters.
And as a creature capable of endless self-modification, Adonsa was infinitely more agile than those cumbersome machines.
Deep within, the neon-gel battery heart worked at full capacity, eight high-energy phosphate nucleotides shuttling energy throughout, driving over a hundred thousand muscle fibers to unleash tremendous force. Gelatinous nerves transmitted signals at nearly optical speeds, making the chimera’s agility rival that of the Fighters.
Terror flickered in the Martial Voids’ eyes, but it was quickly replaced by a fanatic fervor, and their attacks did not cease.
Adonsa sensed something was wrong—there seemed to be a shared frequency in these Fighters’ delta waves, as if they had been brainwashed.
The Martial Voids’ fearless assault inevitably slowed the chimera’s advance. With a furious roar, the creature’s venom sacs spewed a foul, yellowish gas so corrosive that mere contact would cause flesh to rot.
The Fighters bellowed in frustration like trapped beasts; even as their organs were devoured, their skin corroded, and their limbs twisted, they pressed their attack on Adonsa.
Half a minute later, the toxic cloud slowly dispersed, leaving the surrounding trees withered and yellowed.
The colossal chimera lunged forward once more, leaving behind a field of dismembered corpses.
Adonsa rotated its spider-like eyes and leapt, pouncing toward a seemingly empty thicket.
“Whoa!” The brush parted, and a slender youth in futuristic attire shot sparks from his feet, escaping the chimera’s shadow.
Adonsa fired a spray of parasites, but suddenly, a pair of massive iron wings with turbine engines unfolded from the boy’s back. Bathed in azure light, they roared mightily as they drew in to shield him from the parasite bullets.
With a flap of those wings, the boy unleashed such thrust that the trees below bent beneath the force—he was about to soar into the sky.
Adonsa screeched, launching several strands of high-polymer spider silk from its back, which adhered to the boy’s left foot and right hand, yanking him violently to the ground.
The mechanical wings folded just in time to shield their master, burying themselves deep in the soil.
From a mysterious, distant space came startled voices.
“Damn!”
“Wait, stay hidden!”
But just as Adonsa was about to capture this strange figure, a silhouette darted in from the side and, with a single blow of a meteor hammer, severed the spider silk.
The pull vanished instantly, and the mechanical wings spread wide once more. The twin turbines spun at high speed, radiant in blue, lifting the boy into the air.
Adonsa bared five rows of piranha-like steel teeth and unleashed an earth-shaking roar: “Qi Qiuchan, what are you doing?”
Qi Qiuchan replied coldly, “Adonsa, our enemy is Zhang Liaoyuan—there’s no need to complicate things.”
“Complicate things? Ha!” Adonsa’s voice dripped with open mockery. “Leviathan said your wandering dragon hammer isn’t of this world. So what about you, Qi Qiuchan? Where do you come from?”
Qi Qiuchan gripped her weapon tightly. “That’s none of your business, Adonsa. I have only one purpose—to protect the lands of Shenzhou.”
At that moment, a violent explosion erupted overhead. The boy’s great black-winged silhouette was engulfed in fire and plummeted helplessly earthward.
Adonsa’s aerial jellyfish, stationed high above, had ambushed the fleeing boy, crippling him with self-destruction.
Qi Qiuchan, witnessing this, gritted her teeth and growled, “Adonsa!”
Adonsa turned away. “If you wish to save him, hurry up. I’ll be waiting for him below.”
Several split bodies charged toward the spot where the boy was falling.
Qi Qiuchan glanced at the battered enforcers in the distance but remained where she was.
Yet Adonsa could sense another presence racing through the dense forest toward the crash site—clearly, this was the third faction in this expedition.
“Hurry, faster! Amano Daishi and I will go ahead!”
Through the jungle, two figures dashed at full speed toward the place where the boy had fallen.
One was a tall woman with lotus leaves and blossoms tattooed across her body—Su Jin. The other was a lightly equipped man with a long blade at his waist—Amano Daishi.
They were the swiftest of their group, leaving behind a slower companion as they rushed to rescue another.
The man’s voice stretched in the wind, “The invisibility generator that has never failed us before malfunctioned—seems we underestimated these natives.”
Su Jin bit her silver teeth. “We can’t underestimate anyone. If it weren’t for this area’s strange magnetic field, the hummingbird drones would work, and Kamp wouldn’t have had to take such a risk. Even with Qi Qiuchan’s help, this world is far more complicated than we thought. Kamp… I hope we’re in time.”
Amano Daishi sneered. “I warned him not to rely too much on foreign tech—now he’s just a burden.”
“Enough, we’ll discuss this later.” Su Jin’s expression darkened further.
Soon they reached their destination, only to find six vigilant split bodies searching the area, with no sign of Kamp.
The six split bodies, wolfhound heads raised, spotted the two and then sprinted away.
Su Jin heaved a sigh of relief. “It seems that creature, Adonsa, doesn’t truly wish to complicate matters—after all, it already has enough enemies.”
Amano Daishi sniffed the air. “What about Kamp? Where did he go?”
“Are you talking about this little brother?”
