Chapter Thirty-Seven: Take a Guess
Take a guess?
“I wonder what brings a fellow cultivator here tonight? Such behavior is hardly becoming of a gentleman.” Bai Qi paused to steady his voice, and when he spoke again, there was a distinct note of irritation. Not only had the stranger appeared soundlessly behind Bai Qi and his companions—enough to startle anyone—but what truly provoked him was the man’s utter silence. Standing atop the carriage, his face veiled, he cast down a gaze that, aloof and proud, carried a trace of complex emotion toward Bai Qi—perhaps mocking, or perhaps simply indifferent.
Bai Qi waited for some time, but the man said nothing. The longer he endured that look, the more unsettled he felt. The arrogance was palpable. At last, Bai Qi’s patience wore thin. “So you’re the one without eyes? Roaming about in the dead of night instead of sleeping, only to be a nuisance to others!” He didn’t bother to conceal his sarcasm and scorn. Frankly, anyone would be irked to encounter such a situation at this hour, and the man’s insufferable attitude only fanned the flames. Bai Qi was more than ready for a confrontation.
By now, any trace of drunkenness had vanished; he forced the alcohol from his system with spiritual power, letting it dissipate into nothingness.
