Chapter 122: She Is My Everything
Lin Liyang, who prided himself as an experienced man, shook his head and sighed deeply.
Cheng Yishu smiled faintly and said, “Looks like Brother Yang is quite moved.”
Lin Liyang raised his eyebrows and sighed, “Enough of that, let’s change the subject. What does your girlfriend do? Is she in the industry?”
“No,” Cheng Yishu replied, unusually shy.
Having spent so much time on set, everyone had assumed Cheng Yishu’s aloof demeanor was ingrained in his very bones. Who would have thought he had this side?
“Are you aiming for marriage?” Lin Liyang leaned in, smiling warmly at him.
“Of course!” Cheng Yishu answered earnestly. “And it’ll be soon.”
“Really?” Lin Liyang was skeptical. “Marrying and having kids at the peak of your stardom? That’s commendable courage.”
He gave a thumbs-up, full of admiration.
“Honestly, I admire you more, Brother Yang. In this regard, I still have much to learn from you,” Cheng Yishu said, his eyes shining with genuine respect.
“Admire me?” Lin Liyang chuckled.
“Only you would say that. Everyone knows I’m not one of those rising stars or a role model in anyone’s eyes.”
“Who says otherwise?” Cheng Yishu replied seriously. “To me, Brother Yang is definitely a senior worth emulating.”
A bitter smile crept across Lin Liyang’s lips. The world knew well how, despite his career being at a crucial turning point, he had boldly acknowledged his relationship with Jiang Yue in front of the media, causing irreparable damage to his reputation.
Yet he had done so without hesitation, doing what he believed a man should do.
That was the true responsibility of a man.
Suddenly, Cheng Yishu’s phone rang, pulling Lin Liyang out of his reverie.
“Hello? Don’t tell me you’re lost…”
Seeing it was Su Nian’s number, Cheng Yishu thought she might be struggling to find their location and was about to tease him, but Su Nian’s next words froze him in place.
“Listen, Xiao Wen is in trouble… Don’t panic. I’ve already called the police, but they can’t do much yet. They only file a case after a missing adult’s been gone for 24 hours. For now, we have to find anyone who might have abducted Xiao Wen…”
Su Nian’s tone was remarkably calm, as if what she said was a joke. But Cheng Yishu knew she wouldn’t joke about Xiao Wen’s safety.
“Where are you? I’m coming to find you right now!”
Cheng Yishu tried to steady his voice, but the veins on his hand gripping the phone bulged, betraying his overwhelming fear and anxiety.
Beside him, Lin Liyang saw the expression on Cheng Yishu’s face and knew something was wrong. Sitting up straight, he furrowed his brows solemnly.
“All right, right away.”
Cheng Yishu hung up, his face pale and voice trembling as he glanced at Lin Liyang.
“Sorry, Brother Yang, I have to take care of something… I’m going to look for Director Chen now.”
“Hey!” Lin Liyang grabbed Cheng Yishu’s now cold hand, his surprise deepening as he asked, “Are you taking leave? Is it something serious? If it’s not a huge emergency, you’d better not ask the director for time off easily. Otherwise, he’ll just say ‘the show must go on’ and send you packing!”
Cheng Yishu pulled his hand free quietly and said softly, “She is my everything.”
Without looking back, he opened the car door and walked briskly away.
Lin Liyang paused, then chuckled softly to himself.
“Young people are always impulsive. Back in my day, I wasn’t so young either, but I was just as passionate…”
When Dalingzi drove Cheng Yishu back to the hotel, Chen Kai had already arrived.
Though he was still in a cast and using crutches, aside from some limited mobility, he showed no other symptoms.
“How is it? Any news?”
Cheng Yishu pushed open the door and went straight to Su Nian. At the same moment, Su Nian looked at Cheng Yishu with hopeful eyes.
The entire room was somber. Chen Kai broke the silence, “Don’t worry. Whoever took Lin Xiao Wen will make contact.”
Noticing all eyes on him, Chen Kai continued after a pause, “Given the current situation, it’s most likely an abduction. Abductions always come with demands. I’ve seen cases like this before… Maybe the kidnappers know about the relationship between Xiao Wen and Yishu, and they want money. If that’s the case, there’s no need to worry too much. Just wait quietly for their call. But…”
“But what?” Cheng Yishu’s eyes widened, his anxiety barely contained. “Can you just say it all at once? Don’t keep me in suspense at a time like this!”
Chen Kai understood his worry and urgency and didn’t mind his tone.
He went on, “But we can’t rule out the Si family’s involvement. Don’t forget, Lin Xiao Wen ran away from the Si family.”
“The Si family?” Cheng Yishu was taken aback, having forgotten about Si Nan.
“That’s impossible!” Chen Kai suddenly said.
“If the Si family had sent someone from Shanghai, I would have found out. After I called Cheng Yishu, I contacted my brothers in Shanghai. No one has taken on such a ‘job.’”
Su Nian’s voice was resolute, and Cheng Yishu began to understand what she did for a living.
“Just because there’s no movement from Shanghai doesn’t mean the situation here is clear. Don’t forget this is the China-Myanmar border—full of shady characters. It’s possible the Si family found Xiao Wen’s whereabouts and hired ‘locals’ to bring her back.”
Chen Kai analyzed.
“Then what are we waiting for? Regardless of whether it’s Si Nan or not, we need to contact the Si family immediately and find out the truth. Xiao Wen’s safety is the priority!”
Cheng Yishu looked at Su Nian and said in a low voice, “You must have Si Nan’s contact info, right?”
Su Nian nodded in response. “Okay, I’ll call him right now.”
Seeing everyone’s tense expressions, Dalingzi clutched her constantly vibrating phone, hesitating between speaking up and holding back.
Chen Kai noticed her dilemma and asked, “What’s wrong? Did the crew call?”
He had anticipated that after Cheng Yishu abruptly left the set, abandoning everyone mid-shoot, his phone would be bombarded with calls.
So Chen Kai had wisely turned off his own phone.
With no way to reach Chen Kai, the calls naturally targeted Dalingzi next.
“Uh-huh…” Dalingzi grimaced in pain and lifted the phone showing multiple missed calls. “It’s the assistant director—over thirty calls already. I don’t dare to answer!”
“Not answering won’t help either,” Chen Kai scratched his head. “Here, you should pick up and listen. What if the director has already approved your leave?”
Dalingzi grimaced and muttered, “I don’t want to think that way.”
Everyone knew how strict Director Chen Dan was. Who could expect to get time off from him?
Taking a deep breath, she steeled herself, pressed answer, and braced for a barrage of scolding—only to be met with the soft, kind voice of the producer.
Dalingzi hung up, immensely grateful. Chen Kai frowned, watching her.
“Well? Did someone… scold you into oblivion?”
“Heh…” Dalingzi chuckled foolishly for a moment before saying, “The other male lead, Brother Yang, needed urgent leave for a few days. So, Director Chen approved Cheng’s leave as well. But he has to return to the set as soon as possible.”
Hearing this, Cheng Yishu’s tightly furrowed brows showed no sign of easing, but deep down, he began to understand a little more.
