Volume 1, Chapter 148: Learning the Cosmic Phantom Beast Fist
Master Alft's heart skipped a beat, but being worldly-wise, he immediately deduced that Tregear had not genuinely intended to kill Wang Xiao just now.
Otherwise, Tregear would never have given himself the opportunity to save Wang Xiao.
Even so, he dared not lower his guard.
For this individual was simply too dangerous!
Master Alft’s gaze flickered, hidden lights dancing in the depths of his eyes. After a long silence, he finally spoke, "To forge a connection with a Space Beast, one must first cultivate the Space Beast Fist. Only when your state of mind reaches the required realm can you perceive the Space Beast in meditation."
"Cultivate the Space Beast Fist?" Tregear frowned, slightly dissatisfied with this outcome.
Yet judging by Alft’s expression, the old man did not seem to be lying.
Could it truly be necessary to practice the Space Beast Fist in order to meet a Space Beast?
Unwilling to waste time, Tregear asked directly, "How long will it take?"
"This..." Alft pondered for a moment, giving an answer utterly unacceptable to Tregear, "According to records, the fastest person among us Beast Fighters to forge a pact with a Beast still took a full eighty years."
"Eighty years!" Tregear’s eyes widened, and the aura surrounding him instantly plunged into chaotic disarray, sweeping Leo and the others backward through the air.
Such an astonishing presence... Another cold bead of sweat rolled down Wang Xiao’s forehead as he anxiously looked toward his teacher.
Compared to him, Master Alft appeared far more composed, his aged eyes having returned to their usual unruffled calm, completely devoid of ripples.
Only the occasional strange glimmer deep within his pupils betrayed that he was deep in thought.
"Indeed," Alft nodded slowly, his tone gentle as he said, "If you wish to learn the Space Beast Fist, you may stay here temporarily and cultivate alongside Wang Xiao."
"What!" Wang Xiao felt his scalp tingle, and he blurted out, "Master Alft, you want to let him learn the Space Beast Fist?"
"And why not?" Alft slanted a glance at him, "Do you perhaps have a better idea?"
"Uh... this..." Wang Xiao was momentarily rendered speechless.
Indeed, the sheer terror of the power Tregear displayed at a single glance meant that provoking him was by no means a wise choice.
Alft shifted his gaze back to Tregear. "Young man, what do you think?"
Tregear remained silent, his brows tightly locked as if weighing the matter.
Eighty years was nothing more than the snap of a finger to him.
Yet experiencing it fully would still consume a certain amount of time.
A moment later, Tregear finally raised his head. "Very well. Since that is the case, let me experience this legendary Space Beast Fist for myself."
Hearing Tregear’s agreement, Master Alft finally breathed a sigh of relief, a hint of a smile surfacing on his face. "Now then, can you tell us your origins?"
"Tregear."
The moment those four words left his lips, Leo, who had just managed to crawl back up, underwent a drastic change in complexion and blurted out, "You're from the Land of Light!"
Before this, they hadn't paid much attention to Tregear's name, but upon hearing "Land of Light," everyone except Regulos wore expressions of shock.
Master Alft was momentarily stunned. Though he remained silent, the smile on his face grew all the richer, and a sharp glint flashed through his eyes.
Before Tregear could speak, Leo came scrambling and crawling forward, his expression excited as he said, "So you're an Ultra Warrior from the Land of Light!"
Tregear: "..."
"What kind of place is the Land of Light?" Regulos asked, poking Ling Lan with a puzzled look.
"I don't know much about it either," Ling Lan shook her head, answering vaguely, "I've only heard Instructor Wang Xiao mention it. The Ultra Warriors who protect the universe seem to come from that place."
"So that's how it is," Regulos said in sudden enlightenment.
Though he had never heard of the Land of Light, he had caught wind of the Ultra Warriors. They were said to be warriors of light guarding cosmic peace, deeply beloved by all.
If he was an Ultra Warrior, however, why had he attacked Instructor Wang Xiao just now?
This doubt arose in the minds of the others as well.
After all, just a moment ago, the slightest misstep could easily have resulted in Instructor Wang Xiao being pulverized along with the shattering space.
Leo seemed to have completely overlooked this fact as he stood before Tregear, continuously introducing himself and expressing his long-held yearning for the Land of Light, regretting only that he had never had the chance to visit.
Tregear ignored him entirely, not even sparing him a glance from the corner of his eye, instead fixing his gaze quietly on Master Alft, awaiting his next arrangement.
"Hey, everyone's here? Who is he?"
At that moment, a hearty voice rang out.
An alien clad in full armor with two horns protruding from his head walked up the steps. Seeing Alft and the others, he paused in surprise before speaking up with a puzzled look.
"Dias, you're here! Come over quickly!" Regulos hurriedly waved his hand. As he spoke, he subconsciously glanced at Tregear, terrified that his senior brother's casual intrusion might provoke the displeasure of the Ultra Warrior.
Dias frowned, not thinking too much of it, and walked straight over, stopping beside Regulos before continuing to ask, "What on earth is going on here?"
"Shh!" Regulos made a gesture for quiet, then, in a very low voice, recounted everything that had just transpired.
"Oh, really?" Hearing the account, Dias did not seem particularly surprised; instead, his brows furrowed even deeper, and the gaze he cast upon Tregear grew noticeably hostile.
While Dias was sizing up Tregear, Tregear quietly turned his head, their eyes locking onto one another.
"It's you!"
Those two words slipped out entirely from Tregear's subconscious.
Yet the moment he uttered them, a realization seemed to dawn upon him, and the corner of his mouth curled into a bizarre smile.
"You know me?" Dias's brows furrowed tighter still.
He was certain he had never laid eyes on this Ultra Warrior before.
Yet the other's reaction just now...
At this thought, Dias's heart skipped a beat.
Outwardly, however, he maintained his composure and probed cautiously, "Brother, have we met somewhere before?"
"Not that I recall," Tregear replied indifferently, though the smile on his face grew increasingly meaningful.
Pinned under his gaze, Dias suddenly felt as though he had been stripped bare, leaving his mind ill at ease.
Could it be that he knows my true identity?
Dias dared not be certain, for if that were the case, everything he had worked for might all come to naught.
And he would never allow such an outcome to happen.
He was determined to obtain the ultimate Space Beast Fist!
