Chapter 148: Holy Light Captain America
The moment Steve made his soul vow, the system’s prompt sounded clearly within Mei Jiecao’s spiritual sea.
“Ding!”
“Congratulations, host. You have successfully altered the fate of Marvel’s core hero, Captain America Steve Rogers. You have gained 5 points of [Fate Reversal Points] and 20 points of [Fate Deviation Points]!”
“Note: [Fate Reversal Points] are a rarer and more powerful special essence than [Fate Deviation Points]. They can fundamentally change the nature or even the core attributes of a powerful existence. With enough Reversal Points, one could transform a magic-based hero into a physical fighter or turn a Titan into a feeble goblin.”
“Fate Reversal Points are extremely rare; please use them with caution.”
“To reward you for standing out among the countless candidates for Fate Envoys across parallel worlds, we are granting you an additional template specialty. Please draw your reward.”
This prompt left Mei Mumu utterly stunned.
The Balance Lady had accidentally let slip the term [Fate Envoy] once before. Now, Mei had a deeper understanding of what it truly meant.
He finally realized the magnitude of a Fate Envoy’s power. The possibilities it held were beyond imagination.
Turning black into white, summoning clouds with a flick and rain with a wave—these descriptions barely scratched the surface of the power held by one who commanded [Fate Reversal Points].
Handled correctly, a single Fate Envoy could shake an entire parallel world!
The lady then emerged: “It seems that your transition from a candidate to a true Fate Envoy is just a matter of time.”
“Oh? Are there many Fate Envoys?” Mei Mumu asked calmly. “What are the requirements to become an official Fate Envoy?”
“No need to ask or probe me; I will tell you when the time is right. But I can say this: the vast majority of candidates die within the first week, and most of the survivors merely cling to life without a chance to pass the ‘Judgment Day.’ Someone like you, who has found a path to steadily improve themselves, is one in ten thousand.” Her tone carried an indescribable note of admiration.
“Oh! Then I must work even harder.”
The Balance Lady said meaningfully, “Work hard! Parallel universes are not infinite, but that does not mean the best-performing candidates will necessarily become Fate Envoys...”
Then her voice disappeared.
Mei Mumu sighed. Starting his journey so close to 2018, in the year 2016, was a major problem. The short time meant there wasn’t enough time and space to improve himself.
This was the greatest limitation after his transmigration.
But acquiring Doctor Strange’s fate, taking control of destiny with his own hands, ultimately standing before the Dark Lord Dormammu, and finding the path of time reversal—this was the result of his hard work combined with intelligence.
“Phew!” Mei Mumu instinctively let out a breath in the spiritual world. The action itself meant nothing, but it symbolized a shift in his mindset.
“System, I want to specify an advanced draw. Give me a Paladin package.”
“5 Deviation Points.”
“Accepted.”
Mei Mumu’s mindset was excellent. There were countless magic users in the world, but truly formidable Paladins were rare. And the advanced draw would undoubtedly filter out those mediocre or unknown.
In fact, when the roulette began spinning, Mei already had a sense of destiny. Though it appeared random, the roulette actually related somehow to the traits of the drawer or those close to him.
For instance, last time he had drawn a bunch of rogue items, which ended up benefiting two generations of Black Widows.
Now, the Paladin items he drew early in the morning were destined for Captain America. What suited the Captain would certainly be something untainted by evil or corruption.
Sure enough...
After the roulette spun countless times, the purple-quality item that appeared did not disappoint Mei Mumu.
Time in the spiritual world flowed completely differently from the outside.
Though Mei had done so much in his spiritual sea and chatted with the lady, outside it was just an instant.
Before Steve stood Mei Jiecao, like a saint. His soul radiated holy golden light.
“All of this is guided by the Holy Light! May the Holy Light bless you!” Mei Mumu’s solemn and majestic soul voice reverberated, causing the entire spiritual realm around Steve to hum.
The system notifications kept coming:
“Detected host’s secondary profession: [Trainee Lecturer]... Special skill [Basic Teaching] activated. The host can impart the [Growth Template of Silver Hand’s Turalyon] to the target, Captain Steve Rogers, greatly enhancing Steve’s physical limits. Steve officially gains the [Power of the Holy Light].”
“Congratulations, host, you have earned Captain Steve’s complete trust. Steve’s fate has undergone an unknown change. The host gains an additional 10 Fate Deviation Points!”
Not only Steve, but Mei Mumu himself felt his heart pounding wildly.
His speculation was indeed correct. Without investment, you cannot catch the wolf. Without putting in the capital, Captain America’s growth ceiling would always remain city-level.
Though this path of the Holy Light would not immediately boost him to planet-level, it at least opened a new avenue.
And the 5 Deviation Points he spent just now immediately yielded double returns—far more profitable than any gamble.
Time abruptly returned to normal flow, and no one noticed that Mr. Mei had just briefly lost consciousness as if nodding off in the VIP section.
Everyone’s attention was fixed on Steve, trapped inside the metallic “coffin,” screaming incessantly.
“Steve! Are you alright? If you can’t take it, I’ll stop the experiment immediately!” Dr. Abraham anxiously patted the humanoid metal capsule.
At this moment, Steve’s body still endured excruciating pain, but having mastered the path of the Holy Light, he felt a surge of sanctity and coolness within his soul realm.
The Holy Light power from deep within his soul gently soothed his agony.
He suppressed the pain with immense mental strength.
Biting his teeth, clenching his mouth, he took a deep breath and shouted: “I can still hold on! Please continue!”
His perseverance moved every scientist, official, and technician present.
Howard glanced at the doctor. All decisions rested in his hands. Dr. Abraham gritted his teeth: “Steve, we will slowly increase the dosage. If you can’t bear it—”
“Faster! I can still endure!” Steve roared.
The doctor finally nodded heavily toward Howard.
Howard understood as well. Lingering at 50% power for too long was no solution. He gritted his teeth and began turning the dial to increase the power.

P.S. These past few days, the author first fell ill, then the little one developed a tongue-tie and couldn’t pronounce “Dong,” so we took him to the doctor. A minor surgery to release the tongue tie is scheduled for this Saturday. Sigh, so many troubles. Please forgive me. If you have monthly tickets, kindly throw some support my way. Thank you!
