Chapter 160: Demonic Flames
The flames within Lin Wei’s body continued to blaze fiercely. His form seemed to transform into a vortex, surrounded by a colossal blood droplet that surged wildly, pouring into his body. Yet, Lin Wei’s physique showed no sign of swelling or change.
“The energy inside is becoming increasingly condensed...” Although he could not see the transformation within, Lin Wei sensed the pure energy filling his chest cavity.
The massive blood droplet began to slowly diminish, and with the passage of time, it eventually vanished completely.
Suddenly, the pure black flame mark on Lin Wei’s brow flickered as if it possessed life.
“Hiss~!” The colossal Lovaas Serpent, witnessing this, lightly flicked its forked tongue, its eyes gleaming with an almost human-like excitement. It raised its enormous head and let out a thunderous roar toward the sky.
In an instant, fiery clouds spread across the entire horizon.
Boom! Boom! Boom! One volcano after another erupted violently to the serpent’s roar—more intense than any eruption before. Scorching, molten lava sprayed into the air like dazzling fireworks.
In a flash, the Lovaas Mountain Range was transformed into a vast lake of lava. The molten streams flowed far and wide, refusing to cool into hardened lava upon touching the ground; instead, they coursed like rivers through the valleys, ceaselessly surging among the mountains.
Yet, when the lava streams approached within ten kilometers of the Lovaas Serpent, they instinctively veered away, forming a vacuum zone around the creature.
“My body...” Lin Wei felt a profound shift in his bodily density once more. He sensed that even relying solely on his physical constitution, he could withstand the magical assault of an ordinary level-three sorcerer apprentice.
He opened his eyes.
His violet irises dimmed from their usual luster, and if one looked closely, two tiny black flames flickered deep within his pupils—mirroring exactly the flame pattern on his brow.
Suddenly, black flames erupted from within Lin Wei, burning fiercely. The intense heat distorted the surrounding space, creating visual illusions of twisting and fracturing.
Strangely, these black flames caused no harm to Lin Wei’s skin, nor did they damage his clothing in the slightest.
“I seem to be able to control this black flame...” Lin Wei murmured to himself. “This flame...”
“Hmm?!” Lin Wei’s sudden pause was triggered by a fragment of memory spontaneously surfacing.
“The flame that burns away all barriers in the world… the Demon Flame…”
“Where did this memory come from?”
Quickly, Lin Wei commanded the intelligent orb embedded within him: “Orb, detect the source of this unknown memory!”
“Detecting unknown memory source...”
“Detection complete. The unknown memory originates from the mutated deep blue flesh.”
“The deep blue flesh mutated inside my body?” Lin Wei narrowed his eyes. “That makes sense—the deep blue flesh is already part of me... but it can store memories?”
Lin Wei only knew of muscle memory, but that was entirely different from the kind of memory he was experiencing.
“The flame that burns away all barriers in the world... the Demon Flame?” Lin Wei cautiously attempted to suppress the Demon Flame flickering on his body.
Gradually, the flame faded.
From high above, the Lovaas Serpent gazed down at Lin Wei, its mouth curling slightly as if smiling—a sight that felt peculiarly unsettling to Lin Wei.
Though the Lovaas Serpent was an immense, unreachable giant before him, Lin Wei did not feel the slightest pressure or intimidation.
“Hiss~!” The serpent lowered its massive head slightly, moving it in tandem with Lin Wei’s motions.
Then, coiling its immense body, it rose swiftly and turned away.
Its colossal form was so vast that the volcanoes were no more than small mounds to it. Wherever it passed, mountains shattered and lava fissured beneath its weight.
“Great Serpent!” Lin Wei suddenly shouted after its retreating form.
The Lovaas Serpent seemed to hear the call and gradually halted. Its enormous head slowly turned to look back at Lin Wei.
Lin Wei bowed deeply toward the serpent. “Great Serpent, can you tell me the reason behind all this?”
The serpent gave Lin Wei a profound glance but ignored the question, dragging its fearsome bulk toward the central Lovaas Sent Flame.
“It seems the secret lies in this place, and I must uncover it myself...” Lin Wei felt no disappointment. It was expected that the Great Serpent would not respond to him.
As the serpent departed, the once-raging rivers of lava had solidified into black rock.
“Sherry...” Lin Wei saw Sherry collapsed on the ground. He knelt beside her, gently patting her cheek.
“She’s not dead, just unconscious...” Lin Wei checked her neck and still felt the vigorous circulation of blood within her.
“Mm...” Sherry slowly regained consciousness at his call.
“Lin Wei...” As her eyes opened, she saw Lin Wei close to her face.
“Are you all right? Just now... the Lovaas Serpent...” Sherry smiled faintly, then her expression suddenly shifted as memories surged back.
“The Lovaas Serpent... the giant serpent...” Her gaze grew confused. “What... what happened just now? Right, the volcano erupted suddenly... then I passed out for no reason...”
Lin Wei remained silent beside her, but a suspicion had already formed in his mind: “Has the Lovaas Serpent vanished from Sherry’s memory?”
“It erased others’ memories, but spared mine?” Lin Wei pondered quietly.
“Are you okay now?” Sherry stopped dwelling on the volcanic eruption, remembering Lin Wei’s painful struggle before she lost consciousness.
“Yes, my body had undergone some changes, but it has returned to normal.” Lin Wei nodded in affirmation.
“Your brow...” Sherry suddenly noticed the change in Lin Wei.
“Hm?” Lin Wei touched his brow, focusing inward. He realized that the small black dot had transformed into a flame-shaped mark about the size of a watermelon seed.
He was certain it was linked to the Demon Flame within his body. Without further explanation, he said to Sherry, “We should leave here quickly. We’ve obtained the Lava Flower; there’s no need to risk staying any longer.”
Sherry nodded eagerly, her face filled with relief. Staying in such a place for so long had truly been a nightmare.
