Chapter 77: How Would He Dare Show Himself?
When it came to the secrets of the docks, Li Changqing knew better than to press his luck, so he left it at that.
He rose, bid his farewells, and departed the villa. Outside, returning to the car where Li Minghao and Tang Xiaoyu waited with Bai Chuan, he recounted his conversation with Shen Qingchi in detail.
“You intend to set those two against each other?” Li Minghao’s brows furrowed slightly, and he added, “Even if they both end up dead, I’m afraid someone else will just be sent to take over the docks. It won’t help us uncover what’s really going on there.”
He couldn’t help glancing at Bai Chuan, hoping for his opinion. Bai Chuan, lounging in the front passenger seat, only yawned, entirely uninterested.
“When they start fighting, cracks will show,” Li Changqing replied. “We’re only pretending to be Shen Qingdai’s subordinates. If we keep stalling, sooner or later, Shen Qingchi will get suspicious.”
Of course, Li Changqing thought to himself, with Shen Qingchi’s intelligence, he might not figure it out anytime soon.
“Take me to the Linjiang Docks. I’ll pay Shen Qingdai a visit.”
Soon enough, Li Minghao drove them to a spot five hundred meters from the main gate of the docks. Li Changqing got out, made his way inside with practiced ease, and headed straight to Shen Qingdai’s office.
He knocked crisply on the door.
Inside, Shen Qingdai heard the knock and called, “Come in.”
Li Changqing entered, his face tinged with worry and his steps hurried. “Boss Shen, there’s trouble.”
“Shen Qingchi has conspired with Bureau 36. He’s planning to come to the docks late tomorrow night and kill you.”
Shen Qingdai was momentarily taken aback, but a hint of delight crossed her face. “He’s surrendered to Bureau 36?”
If he really had, her father would never forgive him lightly, and it would save her considerable trouble.
She rose and turned her gaze to Uncle Yun, who had paused his work at the desk. “Uncle Yun, you heard that? Shen Qingchi has betrayed us to Bureau 36. Report this to my father at once.”
Uncle Yun, seasoned and shrewd, chuckled softly. “Miss, we mustn’t be hasty. The Fourth Young Master is still the Old Master’s son. He wouldn’t conspire with Bureau 36 so easily.”
“Even if we assume it’s true and report as much, the Old Master won’t believe it without proof.”
He knew the Old Master understood the rivalry among his children all too well and would never take sides without evidence.
Shen Qingdai pondered a moment, a faint smile curving her beautiful lips. “If Shen Qingchi shows up at the docks tomorrow and tries to attack me, that should count as proof enough, don’t you think?”
“Indeed.” Uncle Yun nodded. If things unfolded as Li Changqing described, with Shen Qingchi coming to such a critical place to attack Shen Qingdai, that would be evidence in itself.
“Li Changqing, be sure to come tomorrow night,” Shen Qingdai said, a smile playing on her lips. With him there as a witness, she was curious how Shen Qingchi would try to weasel out.
Leaving the docks, Li Changqing found that Shen Qingdai’s reaction was exactly as he’d anticipated. These siblings both wanted the other dead.
Back in the car, Li Changqing grinned. “It went smoothly. Tomorrow night, unless something unexpected happens, they’re sure to come to blows. We’ll just be waiting to reap the rewards.”
“The best outcome would be if both are seriously wounded and we can capture them both.”
He couldn’t help but add, “I really don’t know what grudge there is between those two siblings.”
There’s a saying that enemies’ eyes blaze when they meet, but these two must have accumulated quite the hatred in their past lives to be born siblings in this one.
Bai Chuan, as if quite familiar with these monsters, calmly explained, “This is common among their kind, especially those who’ve established some power and influence.”
“Unless one sibling possesses overwhelming talent, making it impossible for the others to surpass, they inevitably lose interest in competing.”
“But if no such prodigy appears, they’ll slaughter each other for their father’s legacy.”
“Among monsters, this is nothing unusual.”
Li Changqing nodded thoughtfully. Tang Xiaoyu, on the other hand, struggled to comprehend this mutual slaughter. To her, siblings were supposed to care for each other, like Li Changqing, Li Lin, and Li Qingxue.
With the plan set, Li Changqing sat in the car, silently hoping, “May the Jade Emperor and the Buddha bless us! I hope Shen Qingchi manages to get rid of Shen Qingdai tomorrow.”
The next night, at eleven o’clock.
Once again, Shen Qingdai had the night-shift workers at the docks sent away.
In her office, she wore black, form-fitting athletic clothes, perfect for movement. She sat on the sofa, a fashion magazine in her hands, though her mind was far from its glossy pages.
Uncle Yun sat at the desk, occasionally glancing at the Fifth Miss. He genuinely wished the conflict between her and the Fourth Young Master could be avoided.
But it was too late. If Shen Qingchi really came to the docks, the confrontation would spiral out of control.
“Has Li Changqing arrived?” Shen Qingdai asked, looking up at Uncle Yun.
“I already called him as you instructed,” Uncle Yun replied. “He says he’s on his way and will be here soon.”
“That man…” Shen Qingdai frowned, but said nothing more.
Just then, the security monitor displayed Shen Qingchi’s figure at the main gate, accompanied by six men. The look of murderous intent on Shen Qingchi’s face was unmistakable as he strode into the dockyard.
“He really came. Li Changqing was right.” Shen Qingdai couldn’t help a cold smile. “Too bad Li Changqing isn’t here as a witness.”
Meanwhile, Shen Qingchi, with his six subordinates, was heading straight for the office building.
“Where’s Li Changqing?” he muttered. He’d contacted him earlier that day, and Li Changqing had promised to meet him here. Now, he was nearly at the office, but there was still no sign of him.
“Sir, could this be a trap?” one of his men whispered.
“My sister is arrogant. Even if she wanted to deal with me, she wouldn’t resort to tricks,” Shen Qingchi replied, confident in his understanding of her. Her greatest flaw was her overconfidence.
As for Li Changqing—well, he wouldn’t dare show his face now, would he?
