Lan Qiqi clenched her teeth slightly and sat up from the ground. “Li Changqing, what are you trying to do?”
Li Changqing narrowed his eyes. Lan Qiqi knew far too much about him. Ordinarily, he should have dealt with her.
Especially with this Evil God incident—if she were to blab about it, Tang Xiaoyu would be in serious danger.
But...
He could not kill her.
Li Changqing was wary of the people behind Lan Qiqi. Who knew what kind of faction stood behind her?
“Does the person behind you know that the Evil God was trying to enter my detective agency?” Li Changqing asked in a low voice, his eyes narrowed.
“Of course not!” Lan Qiqi answered without hesitation. “I haven’t told him yet. I was planning to investigate everything through you first, then report it.”
“You were curious about my identity, weren’t you?” Li Changqing thought for a moment before slowly saying, “You’ve heard of the Three Demons and Four Devils, haven’t you? Take a guess—which one of them do you think I work for?”
Lan Qiqi drew in a sharp breath, utterly stunned.
What?
What?
This man actually worked for the Three Demons and Four Devils?
Her eyes widened to their limits, and she found it hard to believe. Yet when she thought about it carefully, it was not impossible. After all, he had secretly been in league with that living Evil God.
“This is a Heart-Eroding Pill my master gave me.” Li Changqing casually produced a black pill, pried open Lan Qiqi’s mouth, and forcibly fed it to her.
The black pill, of course, was nothing of the sort. The so-called Heart-Eroding Pill was something he had made up.
After throwing Lan Qiqi aside earlier, he had gone to buy some rope and stopped by a pharmacy to purchase a few health supplements.
Li Changqing slowly threatened her. “You’ll have to take an antidote once every month. Otherwise, the poison will attack your heart, and not even a Great Celestial Immortal will be able to save you!”
“My master refined it using a special method. Even the person behind you has no cure for it.”
After swallowing the “Heart-Eroding Pill,” Lan Qiqi could not identify any particular discomfort. Perhaps it was merely psychological, but she felt strange all over.
She clenched her teeth slightly. “What do you want?”
“Didn’t you say you wanted to cooperate? Starting today, you’re also one of my master’s subordinates.” Li Changqing spoke calmly. “As long as you obey, I’ll bring you the antidote once a month.”
Lan Qiqi nodded faintly and asked slowly, “What do you want me to do?”
Seeing that she had taken the bait, Li Changqing secretly breathed a sigh of relief. In a solemn voice, he said, “Do not reveal anything about last night to anyone. Also, find Li Guangxu as quickly as possible within Southlake City. The moment you receive any news about him, tell me.”
With that, he stepped forward and untied her.

“Yes.” Lan Qiqi nodded. Inwardly, she lamented that he had force-fed her the poison pill so quickly that she had not been able to taste it properly.
The next time Li Changqing gave her the antidote, she would savor it carefully. Perhaps she might even be able to concoct a cure herself.
After all, she was a witch who dealt with medicinal herbs every day. Although she was not one of those witches who specialized in poisons, this was still basic knowledge for any witch.
At that moment, curiosity appeared in her eyes. “Can you tell me which one your master is?”
To be honest, Lan Qiqi was not all that dejected.
The Three Demons and Four Devils were the most powerful monsters and fiends in existence.
If she truly managed to join one of those seven, her prospects would be far better than following her current boss.
Even the Investigation Bureau would not dare act rashly against the monsters serving those seven.
“One of them is in the Vermilion Bird Federation. If you perform well, you’ll have the opportunity to meet him.” Li Changqing feigned composure, then asked, “Who is the person behind you?”
Lan Qiqi frowned slightly.
Li Changqing’s voice grew heavier. “What? At a time like this, you still refuse to tell me?”
“The Snow Mountain Corpse King.” Lan Qiqi wore an expression of helplessness. “I was originally just an innocent, adorable little witch from the Lamela Empire. But later, the Snow Mountain Corpse King abducted me and forced me to work for him.”
“He said he would kill me if I refused. I had no choice.”
Soon, Lan Qiqi told him everything about herself, piece by piece.
Of course, Li Changqing knew perfectly well that only about sixty percent of what she said could be trusted. He could not believe her completely.
“Find out where Li Guangxu is as soon as possible.”
With that, Li Changqing turned and left.
Lan Qiqi did not hurry away. Instead, she carefully savored the taste left by the poison in her mouth.
“It’s a shame I swallowed it whole instead of chewing it. Otherwise, I could have identified its main ingredients.” She felt somewhat regretful. Being controlled by someone through poison was not a pleasant experience.
“Why does he want to investigate Li Guangxu?”
“Of the Three Demons and Four Devils, only two are in the Vermilion Bird Federation. Which one of them is my new master?”
A trace of amusement even rose in Lan Qiqi’s heart...

Lan Qiqi had no particular doubts about Li Changqing’s words. Anyone capable of secretly conspiring with that Evil God ought to be a supreme monster of the caliber of the Three Demons and Four Devils.
After leaving the city park, Li Changqing took a vehicle directly to Brightheart Orphanage.
Once inside the orphanage, he went to Hu Xiong’s office.
Hu Xiong sat before the office computer, staring at it with a lecherous grin as he played a game.
Li Changqing knocked on the door, but Hu Xiong did not react at all.
“What are you doing?” Li Changqing walked over to his side and looked at the screen.
Hu Xiong was playing a game similar to the rhythm-dance game popular in Li Changqing’s former life.
He was chatting with a female friend he had met in the game.
Her username was “A Smile Like Spring.”
Hu Xiong’s own online name was “Lone Dragon Abandoning Heaven.”
Li Changqing: “...”
“Old Hu, what on earth are you doing...” Li Changqing could not help saying. That embarrassingly adolescent username really had a certain flavor to it.
Hu Xiong held a cigarette between his teeth and said with a beaming smile, “Qin Shenggen recommended this game to me. He came up with the names, too.”
“I promised to buy him three dinners with drinks before he agreed to teach me a few tricks.”
Li Changqing frowned. “What tricks?”
Hu Xiong said, “You absolutely must not pretend to be some successful businessman or a self-made tycoon. That makes you look like an old man—completely boring. You have to say you’re a rich second-generation heir who studied abroad in the Lamela Empire and came back to do nothing but squander his family’s money...”
Li Changqing felt an urge to complain, but instead said, “Let me ask you about something serious. What exactly is the Snow Mountain Corpse King?”
Hu Xiong was enthusiastically chatting with the woman on the other side of the screen and casually asked, “Why are you suddenly asking about the Snow Mountain Corpse King?”
“I happened to hear about him and got curious.”
Hu Xiong tapped the ash from his cigarette. “The Snow Mountain Corpse King? He... damn it, Changqing, Yiran is from Southlake City too! She’s even invited me to meet her tonight.”
Li Changqing glanced at the screen and thought to himself, Don’t tell me he’s run into another Princess Qiao...
He coughed once, then said with grave seriousness, “Old Hu, can’t we just spend our days catching ghosts properly instead of getting addicted to online romance?”
