Chapter 61: Too Small, Far Too Small!
Ten minutes later.
At the entrance of Jiangcheng People's Hospital, Bai Qingming stepped out of the car and immediately spotted Brother Wang. These days, this guy was practically glued to his livestream, never letting go of his phone, and today was no exception.
"Hey, buddy!" Brother Wang called out from a distance, limping as he walked over.
"Weren't you coming to have your leg checked? What happened to you, Brother Wang?" Bai Qingming asked, puzzled.
"Check my leg? That was just an excuse," Brother Wang sighed. "Actually, I got bitten by a dog and came to get a rabies shot."
Before Bai Qingming could ask further, Brother Wang began recounting his misadventure.
...
Half an hour earlier.
A deliveryman had called Brother Wang to say he had a package. Brother Wang knew it was local specialties sent by his online fans, so he happily went downstairs to collect it.
On his way back, he happened to see a dog chasing after a little girl who looked about five or six years old, trying to bite her.
Without hesitation, Brother Wang charged forward, bravely wrestled with the dog, and rescued the little girl. However, he was wounded in the process, suffering a bite on his calf.
...
"Incredible," Bai Qingming slowly uttered, after hearing Brother Wang’s story.
"Absolutely," Brother Wang replied, getting more animated, his face lighting up as he spoke. "You have no idea how dangerous it was. That dog was huge—stood as tall as me on its hind legs—and it knocked the little girl to the ground in an instant. I rushed in and saved her. Sure, I got bitten, but a small injury like this is nothing."
Brother Wang gestured dramatically as he spoke, saliva flying everywhere. But the online viewers showed no mercy, immediately exposing him.
"Come on, Old Wang, you're laying it on a bit thick, aren’t you?"
"Yeah right, a wolfhound as tall as a man? The one who bit you was just a little corgi!"
"Anyone actually there at the scene? Tell us what really happened."
"I was there. The truth is, there was no little girl at all. Old Wang was just passing by when he saw a corgi sunbathing. He started bragging about his special abilities, claiming he could communicate with animals. Someone in the livestream didn’t believe him and sent a rocket gift, daring him to prove it. When the owner wasn’t looking, Old Wang went over and barked at the corgi. No idea what he said, but the dog pounced and bit him. If you ask me, he must’ve insulted it."
"Nice, Old Wang never lets us down!"
To be fair, Bai Qingming hadn’t intended to read the comments, but Brother Wang’s phone was so close that he couldn’t help but learn the truth. He couldn’t hold back his laughter.
"You lot know nothing. The first person to be bitten by a dog live on the whole internet—tell me that’s not awesome!" Old Wang retorted, his face flushed and neck thickening in irritation.
"So did you insult the dog or not?" Bai Qingming asked, curious.
Brother Wang fell silent.
In the Infectious Diseases Department.
"Wang Lidui," the doctor inside called out Brother Wang’s name.
"Come with me, buddy, and help me out when I get my shot. I get woozy with injections," Brother Wang said weakly.
Bai Qingming was speechless.
Once inside, they found the nurse administering the injection was a beautiful young woman. Brother Wang’s eyes lit up instantly.
Without a word, he dropped his pants and lay face down on the examination bed.
The nurse prepared the syringe, then turned and froze, stunned.
"Um," she said awkwardly, "usually we inject it in the arm."
"It’s fine, this is closer to the wound, so it works faster," Brother Wang replied, patting his backside. "Go ahead, I’m ready!"
He sounded almost heroic.
The nurse was at a loss for words.
And then—
"Awooo!"
...
Leaving the hospital, Brother Wang rubbed his backside, still recovering.
"That nurse was way too rough just now," he muttered.
No sooner had he finished speaking than a passerby walked his dog nearby, the leash loose. The dog trotted past Brother Wang, who shuddered involuntarily—once bitten, twice shy.
Bai Qingming glanced at the dog fading into the distance, then at Brother Wang’s receipt. Suddenly, a daring idea crept into his mind.
"Brother Wang, do you want to make some money?" Bai Qingming asked.
Brother Wang was taken aback, but nodded. "Of course I do!"
Not only Brother Wang, but his entire livestream audience perked up with excitement.
"The Bachelor Godfather is about to share another money-making tip?"
"What? Another money-making scheme? I haven’t even tried the last one that promised a million a month!"
"Thanks to my girlfriend for waking me up early, now I get to learn another way to get rich."
"Wake up, you’re still dreaming."
"April 27th, 2021, 12:00 noon, Wanda Cinema Hall 5, Jiangcheng—long-haired beauty in black stockings in seat 5, row 9, during 'Hi, Mom': after you went to the restroom, your boyfriend kissed your best friend. I hope you see this. I’m not doing this out of spite—just couldn’t stand by. And definitely not because he knocked over my popcorn..."
...
"So what’s the money-making method? Out with it!" Brother Wang demanded impatiently.
After considering its feasibility for a moment, Bai Qingming began to explain.
"Brother Wang, see here: a single rabies shot, plus all the miscellaneous fees, set you back 800 yuan, right?" Brother Wang nodded, not quite following.
"I just asked the doctor. One rabies shot lasts two years, which means if you get bitten by another dog within that time, you don’t need another shot. So, if you get bitten twice a day, that’s over 700 times a year. Add some overtime during holidays, or get bitten a few more times when you’re in a good mood—let’s call it 1,500 times in two years. If every dog owner pays you 800 yuan as compensation... that’s over a million!"
As he talked and calculated, Bai Qingming was astonished by the result, sucking in a sharp breath. Truly, there were countless ways to make money in this world; as long as you put in the effort, making a million a year was within anyone’s reach.
Upon hearing this, the audience exploded with comments.
"Honestly, this sounds way more reliable than the last scheme!"
"I, Jack Ma, am investing in this project!"
"Who’s Jack Ma? I, Wang Duoyu, haven’t even spoken yet."
"Think bigger! If you want to make money, you have to work harder than others. Two bites a day? Why settle? If you treat this like a regular job—eight hours a day, say a dozen bites daily, clear price list: 800 for small dogs, 1,000 for big ones—you could easily rake in tens of millions a year. And if you’re lucky enough to get disabled, you’ll be set for life! Anyway, I’m off to start my new job!"
"Wait up, buddy! Need an assistant? I can find the dogs, you take the bites—split the profits fifty-fifty, or we can negotiate sixty-forty."
"I’m a BMW sales rep, contact me at 152××××3219 if you need a new car."
"I work at the crematorium. Special offer: second cremation half off, free urn included."
"Big money!"
"Be somebody!"
"Let’s go!"
