Chapter Forty-Five: Spacious Interior, Excellent Soundproofing
Before long, Bai Qingming followed Brother Wang to the place he claimed one could buy a luxury car for just twenty thousand yuan.
At first, Bai Qingming thought Brother Wang would treat him to a meal at the Xianggan Family restaurant where they had just gotten out of the car. But as it turned out, he was overthinking things.
Brother Wang said he was taking Bai Qingming somewhere else to eat, promising that it would be somewhere even better than the last place. When asked where, he kept it a secret, acting all mysterious.
Of course, Brother Wang was still live streaming the whole thing.
After walking for a while, the two arrived at Shangjiang Auto City. This was the area in Jiangcheng with the most car dealerships; anyone looking to buy a car would basically come here to choose.
Bai Qingming didn’t mention anything about lunch, assuming Brother Wang wanted to buy a car first.
The thought that he was about to become a car owner, no longer needing to boast or pretend, made Brother Wang feel a twinge of excitement.
With that in mind, he stopped in front of a Porsche dealership.
“Here?”
Bai Qingming was taken aback.
A Porsche for twenty thousand yuan? If that were true, he’d buy ten and take them home.
“No, I just got tired from walking and wanted to rest for a bit,” Brother Wang replied.
Had he not said so, Bai Qingming would have thought this was the place where Brother Wang claimed he could buy a car.
They continued on. Brother Wang kept checking his phone as they walked, and finally, they arrived at a Volkswagen dealership.
From a distance, Bai Qingming and the viewers in the live stream could see a sign at the entrance, clearly stating: “Only twenty thousand yuan to drive a luxury car home.”
“What the heck, since when is Volkswagen a luxury car?”
“Don’t talk nonsense. What’s wrong with Volkswagen? You look down on Volkswagen, huh?”
“Brother Wang, could you share the address if it’s convenient? I want one too.”
The viewers were instantly excited.
However, Bai Qingming had a feeling things weren’t that simple.
At that moment, a female sales representative in uniform trotted over to them.
“Gentlemen, are you here to look at cars?”
Brother Wang nodded, casting a few more glances at the saleswoman.
Not bad, she was quite pretty.
He felt his old habits stirring; he couldn’t help wanting to give her a chance to become his girlfriend.
“My surname is Zhu. You can call me Xiao Zhu,” the saleswoman introduced herself. “Would you like me to show you around, or do you already have a model in mind?”
“No need for all that. This one,” Brother Wang said, pointing at a car parked at the entrance, trying to look like a big spender. “I’ll take it!”
The saleswoman was taken aback.
She had worked here for two or three years and had never seen anyone so straightforward.
“Sir, are you… sure you want this one?” she asked, still in disbelief.
“I’m sure. I brought cash,” Brother Wang said, patting his satchel, which was filled with the twenty thousand yuan he had just withdrawn from the bank.
Hearing this, the saleswoman’s eyes lit up.
“Excellent choice, sir! This is Volkswagen’s latest model. Whether it’s the features or anything else, it’s absolutely top-notch,” she said, her enthusiasm growing.
To her, Brother Wang looked like a wealthy big spender, and the younger man beside him—who seemed oddly familiar—was probably his assistant.
Years of experience in sales told her that this was a major client! If she could build a relationship with him and he came back to buy more cars in the future, she’d be rolling in commissions.
Thinking this, she edged closer.
“Sir, would you like to test drive it first? The car is extremely spacious, the back seat especially soft, with excellent soundproofing and privacy. No one can see inside from outside.”
As she spoke, whether by accident or design, the second button on her blouse suddenly popped open.
“How about we take it out for a spin?” She hinted at Brother Wang.
The live stream chat exploded.
“Damn, this lady is making a move on Brother Wang.”
“No way, not only can you get a car for twenty thousand, but you can also go test drive with this beauty? Where is this place? Asking for a friend.”
“Yeah, yeah, I’ve got the money ready—wait, I mean, my friend’s got the money ready. Waiting for a kind soul to drop the address.”
…
Bai Qingming was stunned.
For a car that cost twenty thousand, how much commission could she get? A thousand?
Did it really warrant all this?
Unfortunately, Brother Wang was fixated on the car and even found the saleswoman annoying, buzzing around like a fly.
He didn’t catch any of her hints about the comfortable back seat or the spacious interior.
So he said, “Test drive for what? It’s a waste of time. Let’s just pay right away.”
The saleswoman was momentarily speechless.
She hadn’t expected even her overt advances to be rejected.
What a pity.
Still, selling this car would earn her a nice commission.
Giving up on her hints, she turned to handle the payment.
“Wait a minute,” Brother Wang suddenly called after her.
The saleswoman thought he had changed his mind about the test drive and felt a surge of hope.
But then Brother Wang asked, “Do you guys serve lunch here or anything?”
“Yes,” she replied. “There’s a restaurant on the second floor.”
“Great,” Brother Wang turned to Bai Qingming. “I told you I’d treat you to a good meal. Come on, let’s go upstairs and eat well.”
Bai Qingming was speechless.
Upstairs, Brother Wang broke into a grin.
“It’s even a buffet!”
…
Half an hour later.
Bai Qingming had long since finished eating, but Brother Wang was still going strong.
He had heard that they offered free lunch here.
It would be a shame not to take full advantage!
During the meal, the saleswoman came up once to say the payment could be processed, but seeing Brother Wang still eating, she had no choice but to wait downstairs.
At last, after helping himself to everything, Brother Wang finished and burped.
“Not bad. They even have steak and red wine. Pity the wine isn’t that good—iced tea would be better.”
Back downstairs, the saleswoman greeted them with a smile.
“Sir, are you ready to pay?”
Brother Wang wiped his mouth and pulled out the twenty thousand yuan he had prepared.
She accepted the money, but when she saw he made no further move, her smile froze.
“Sir, this is only twenty thousand. It’s not enough.”
“Not enough?” Brother Wang’s eyes widened.
“That’s right. To purchase this car outright costs two hundred and twenty thousand,” she replied earnestly.
Everyone else—Bai Qingming and the live stream viewers—looked as if they’d long expected this. Only Brother Wang seemed surprised.
“Didn’t the sign say you could buy a car for twenty thousand?”
Brother Wang blurted out.
The saleswoman was stunned.
Twenty thousand? Was he joking? Even at a used car dealership, you couldn’t get it for that. These days, even a decent motorcycle costs twenty or thirty thousand, let alone a brand-new car.
She glanced at the sign at the entrance and suddenly understood.
It wasn’t actually saying you could buy a car for twenty thousand.
In reality, the twenty thousand was just a deposit. It meant that potential buyers could pay a deposit, take the car home for a three-day trial, and if they liked it, return to pay the rest. If they didn’t, they could bring the car back and supposedly get their deposit refunded.
But when the time came, they’d find all sorts of excuses—like wear and tear—to deduct the deposit as a damage fee.
In short, there was no way anyone was getting that money back.
Put bluntly, the twenty thousand was just a trap for gullible customers!
