Chapter 48: An Omen of Ultimate Doom
A crisp slap echoed through the entire dining hall.
This single blow not only left Su Zhe completely dazed, but also caused the other patrons in the restaurant to stare in utter shock and disbelief.
Those who had just been mocking Ye Feng for overestimating his abilities and waiting to watch him make a fool of himself never expected that as soon as Boss Su arrived, he would truly execute justice upon a family member and give his own son a severe thrashing.
"Aren't you going to apologize to Mr. Ye right now!?"
Su Jiuchuan roared once more at his dazed son.
"Ah? Yes... Yes..."
Recovering his wits, Su Zhe felt like crying without tears.
Only then did he realize that Ye Feng was actually the underground Dragon King his father had mentioned.
Had he known it would lead to such a catastrophic misunderstanding, he never would have come in the first place.
The father and son had intended to suck up, but instead they ended up kicking a dragon's leg and taking a fierce blow.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Ye... It was my fault for being blind and failing to recognize a titan. Please forgive me this once."
Driven by his father's intimidation and the intense pressure of the room, Su Zhe had no choice but to swallow his pride and apologize to Ye Feng for his offense.
This scene served as a slap in the face to almost everyone present.
Aside from Ye Feng, probably no one could have anticipated that the ultimate outcome would be Su Zhe bowing his head in repentance.
"Hh, didn't you just threaten to make it impossible for me to gain a foothold in Yanjing?" Ye Feng sneered coldly.
The remark made Su Zhe shiver with terror. He cringed and said, "No... I was just talking nonsense... I hope Mr. Ye is magnanimous and won't stoop to my level..."
As he spoke, Su Zhe looked to his cousin for help.
"Cousin Susan, you know Mr. Ye. Please, plead with him on my behalf..."
Susan froze, still failing to recover from the shock unfolding before her.
Yet, for her cousin Su Zhe, who usually acted superior and treated her family with disdain, this was the unprecedented first time he was actually asking her for help.
The situation left Susan somewhat at a loss.
For a moment, she did not know how to respond.
"Mr. Ye..." Su Jiuchuan said with a wry smile, "I bear some responsibility in this matter as well."
"It was my own arbitrary decision to have my son come and offer you a toast, not expecting it to cause such a misunderstanding."
Ye Feng nodded and said, "Boss Su, for your sake today, and considering that you and my friend Susan are members of the same family, I can let him off."
"However, I do not wish to see this person again," Ye Feng concluded. "Don't disturb our meal."
Understanding the subtext of Ye Feng's words, Su Jiuchuan immediately issued his orders: "Go back, pack your things, and leave Yanjing tonight. Until Mr. Ye's anger subsides, you need not return."
"Dad!?" Su Zhe was startled, unsure whether his old man was joking or dead serious.
"Did you not hear me? Mr. Ye doesn't want to see you again!" Su Jiuchuan heightened his tone. "Do you want to die, or do you want to get lost!?"
Su Jiuchuan had no doubt whatsoever that the consequence of infuriating Mr. Ye was a dead end with no exceptions.
Only then did Su Zhe realize the severity of the situation. Pausing for a fraction of a second, he stammered, "I'll get lost... I'm getting lost right now..."
With that, Su Zhe scurried out of the restaurant like a startled hare.
"Mr. Ye, then we won't disturb you any further." Su Jiuchuan and Black Dragon said with subservient bows. "We wish the two of you a pleasant meal."
The brief conflict thus came to an end.
Yet the final outcome exceeded everyone's expectations.
"Is he really the abandoned son of the Ye family?"
"Could Boss Su have mistaken him for someone else?"
"But even the crime lord Black Dragon treats him with absolute reverence? What on earth is going on here?"
Such doubts were shared not just by the onlookers, but even by Susan, whose expression right now was filled with intense curiosity.
First the Zhao family last night, and now the Su family tonight.
She suddenly realized that the Ye Feng before her seemed wrapped in a layer of mystery, rendering him completely inscrutable to her.
Could someone with such terrifying connections really be a man who had just walked out of prison?
"How do you know my uncle?" Susan asked with burning curiosity.
"We met today," Ye Feng laughed. "I never expected that you two would be family."
Susan smiled bitterly and said, "They belong to the main branch of the Su family, while my family is just a collateral branch. Aside from gathering during major festivals and ancestral worship, we don't usually have much interaction."
Ye Feng could also tell that when they had first arrived, that junior of the Su family named Su Zhe hadn't regarded Susan with even a shred of respect. Even if Susan's father had been present, his attitude likely would have been the same.
"From now on, their family won't dare to show disrespect to yours ever again." Ye Feng believed that with his relationship as a backing, Su Jiuchuan wasn't a fool; hence, he would undoubtedly take the initiative to foster a good relationship with Susan's family moving forward.
Just then, the delicious dishes were served one after another.
The two shifted to a more relaxed topic and chatted happily.
After three rounds of drinks and tasting a variety of dishes, they were only halfway through the meal.
Suddenly, Ye Feng paused, staring intently at Susan's slightly flushed cheeks.
"Why do you... keep looking at me?" Susan asked, a trace of bashfulness coloring her face. "Is there something on my face?"
Of course there was.
However, fearing he might frighten Susan, Ye Feng naturally could not speak the truth.
For Ye Feng had noticed that Susan's *Yintang*—the space between her eyebrows—was gradually darkening, and a cluster of malevolent black Qi was even beginning to gather above her head.
This was an ominous omen of impending disaster!
Following this trend, within a day at the absolute latest, Susan would encounter a bloody calamity.
"I won't let anything happen to you."
Ye Feng attempted to first help Susan dispel the malevolent Qi gathered above her head.
With a gentle wave of his hand, he brushed through the air.
That mass of black Qi instantly scattered in all directions.
"What on earth is wrong with you?" Susan noticed that Ye Feng had suddenly started acting strangely.
"You might run into a bit of trouble recently," Ye Feng reminded her. "Try to go out less over the next two days. Why don't you take a day off tomorrow and skip work?"
If she could just endure through a day or two, perhaps her fortune would gradually reverse.
"Tomorrow is the weekend, so of course I don't have to work," Susan laughed. "Since when did you learn how to read fortunes?"
"I know a little bit." Ye Feng's fifteenth master was a master of Feng Shui metaphysics, proficient in divination, physiognomy, and other mystical arts.
"Then can you calculate what's going to happen tomorrow?" Susan asked again with interest.
"Tomorrow is still unknown; who can calculate that?" Even if he could, Ye Feng wouldn't dare calculate it casually, lest he leak the secrets of the heavens.
"Actually, there is one thing tomorrow," Susan smiled. "It's our high school reunion. Do you want to come?"
Hearing this, Ye Feng shook his head. "Not interested. I'm not going."
After graduating from high school, Ye Feng had been locked away in prison, and in the blink of an eye, five years had passed.
Aside from Susan, he kept in touch with no one else from his high school days.
Furthermore, Ye Feng simply didn't have the time.
"Well, it's fine if you don't attend," Susan said with a self-deprecating smile. "Sigh, honestly, if I weren't the vice president of the class, I wouldn't plan on going either."
Following that, the two reminisced about the past events of their high school days.
Before long, Ye Feng noticed that the black Qi he had just dispersed had actually re-gathered above Susan's head, and it was now a full circle larger than before.
Ye Feng frowned, thinking to himself: Could it be that Susan is destined not to escape this calamity tonight after all?
