Chapter 32: The Final Choice
"What!?"
At these words, the entire Zhao family was stunned. They had not expected Ye Feng’s prediction to come true so quickly. The mastermind behind the scenes had actually come knocking on their door!
"It seems the divine doctor Ye was absolutely right!" Dean Chen said excitedly. "News of your recovery, Elder Zhao, has not yet leaked out, so the mastermind behind this is unaware and has walked right into our trap."
"Father, what should we do now?" Zhao Tiancong asked.
"Tiancong, take some men immediately and capture that person! Do not let him escape!" Elder Zhao’s expression darkened. This person had nearly cost him his life; now that he had delivered himself, there was no way he would let him go.
"Understood!" Zhao Tiancong quickly stood up, gathered several clansmen, and rushed out.
"My hospital will provide full support!" Dean Chen also hurriedly took out his phone to mobilize security to assist.
Zhao Tiancong could not help but marvel, "The little divine doctor is not only skilled in medicine but also possesses near-divine foresight! He predicted everything! It’s truly incredible!"
"Indeed," Elder Zhao nodded. He glanced at the medical prescription one last time and made a final decision. "Tianming, contact Minister Yuan for me. Tell him to come see me tonight."
Seeing that his father intended to summon his former subordinate—a man his father had personally promoted—Zhao Tianming immediately understood his father's intentions and went to carry out the order.
At this moment, Elder Zhao had finally made up his mind to stand firmly on Ye Feng’s side. He would utilize his connections and influence to investigate the Ye family to the very end. Even if it could not topple the foundation of the Ye family, it would be enough to break their bones and shake their core. As for the rest, Elder Zhao would wait and see, watching Ye Feng’s performance unfold.
"Do not disappoint me, young man..."
Elder Zhao had never misjudged a person or placed a losing bet. He hoped that in his twilight years, he would not ruin a lifetime of reputation on this young man.
About the time it takes to brew a cup of tea later, Zhao Tiancong returned in triumph, in high spirits.
"Father, look who has come to see you!"
As they spoke, a young woman in fine silk attire, looking heroic and spirited, walked in carrying a fruit basket.
"Xiao Jin!" Seeing the woman, Elder Zhao immediately went to greet her.
The visitor was none other than Jin Luyi. The car accident from some time ago had garnered significant attention; although Jin Luyi had lost her mother, she had received help from many people, among them the kind-hearted Elder Zhao. Had Li Yubai not stepped in to adopt her as his goddaughter, Elder Zhao had been prepared to bring the poor girl into the Zhao household to care for her.
"Grandpa Zhao, I heard you were ill, so I came to check on you," Jin Luyi said as she entered the room.
"And she happened to help us catch that mastermind," Zhao Tiancong added with a sense of relief. "It was fortunate we ran into her. I didn't realize that wicked monk had such skills; he nearly got away!"
It turned out that Jin Luyi had come to visit Elder Zhao just as Zhao Tiancong was leading his men to capture the mastermind who had arrived on their doorstep. The sloppy, wicked monk had sensed danger and, possessing considerable martial skill, had managed to break through their initial encirclement. Unfortunately for him, he ran straight into Jin Luyi, who captured him in a single move.
"I heard that villain nearly killed you, Grandpa Zhao?" Jin Luyi promised. "Don't worry, leave him to me. I will take him back and interrogate him thoroughly."
"Then I shall trouble you with this," Elder Zhao thanked her with a smile.
After setting down the fruit basket, Jin Luyi asked with concern, "Grandpa Zhao, how are you feeling now? What did the doctors say? What exactly was the illness?"
"I am much better now," Elder Zhao chuckled. "If I hadn't met a divine doctor today, you wouldn't be seeing me right now."
"Is it really that serious?" Jin Luyi found it hard to believe, as Elder Zhao looked very healthy and showed no signs of illness.
"You might not believe it, but I truly walked through the gates of hell today. It was that young divine doctor who brought me back."
The people around them chimed in, recounting the story of Elder Zhao’s miraculous return from the dead.
"There exists such a divine doctor? One who can even bring back the dead?" Jin Luyi marveled.
Regret stirred in her heart. "What a pity. My godfather left just this morning. Otherwise, I would have asked that doctor to examine my godfather’s chronic injuries."
Li Yubai spent his years either in the military or out on the battlefield. His body was covered in wounds, many of which had developed into persistent, stubborn chronic conditions. It was only due to Li Yubai's willpower, which far exceeded that of an ordinary person, that he was not already paralyzed.
"Oh? The God of War Li has left?" Elder Zhao was surprised. "Why in such a hurry? Is there trouble at the border?"
"Not at all," Jin Luyi smiled. "My godfather said his duty as a guardian was complete, so he returned. He was never accustomed to life here anyway; he found it quite dull."
Elder Zhao sighed. "What a pity. I intended to have a drink with the God of War Li once I was discharged. This parting, I fear..."
Thinking of the one month of life he had left, a wave of melancholy washed over Elder Zhao. He feared he would never see many of his old friends again.
After chatting with Elder Zhao for a while longer, Jin Luyi rose to leave.
"Grandpa Zhao, I have official business to attend to, so I must be going. Things are not peaceful at the Dragon Gate Building today. The Black Dragon has suddenly returned, bringing many skilled fighters with him. I heard he is meeting someone there. It has caused quite a stir, and our Yanjing Guards are all heading over to ensure nothing goes wrong."
The Black Dragon!?
Hearing this, Elder Zhao’s expression shifted. He remembered that his youngest granddaughter had been tricked by the Black Dragon.
"Very well, you should go quickly!"
