Chapter 9: Taking Advice
Zhao Jianguo let out a sigh of relief; this was good. However, it was clear that his relief was premature.
[Although other systems cannot stay long, some, like the Interdimensional Shop Trading System, can remain briefly. If its trading channel connects to this world, it can accompany its host during a short stay here, leaving once its task is complete.]
Zhao Jianguo’s heart immediately tightened. If that were true, and the military failed to respond promptly, it could mean that criminals might purchase technology far advanced beyond their own from the interdimensional shop. Such a scenario would surely cause another uproar.
Mo Qianxun had thought of this too and looked seriously at 008: “Is there such a system in our world now?”
[Host, rest assured, I am the only system in your world.]
Zhao Jianguo’s expression turned grave. “Qianxun, we must report this immediately. If a shop like 008 describes exists beyond the state’s control, it could spark chaos.”
“I understand. Why don’t you make the call first? I’ll discuss with 008 to see if there’s any way to prevent such incidents.” Mo Qianxun could only imagine the turmoil if such things truly happened.
Just imagine a group of kidnappers suddenly wielding laser guns. What if they even got their hands on some kind of interstellar armor? She dared not think further.
Zhao Jianguo picked up the landline and made a call.
Seeing their actions, 008 actually sighed in relief. [Host, you have the right concerns. My predecessors once told me at a system gathering that some hosts develop their systems independently after binding. Some achieve remarkable success, but that depends on their strong abilities.
However, some hosts, utterly powerless, still choose to develop their own systems and end up falling victim to ill-intentioned individuals who destroy the otherworld.
That’s not the worst part. Some worlds have binders who lose all trust in their nations and choose self-development. Meanwhile, other binders arrive on those worlds for missions. Without state safeguards and with sellers and buyers willing to take risks, chaos erupts everywhere, war breaks out, and eventually, the entire world is destroyed.]
Hearing the mention of world destruction, Zhao Jianguo’s hand trembled slightly holding the receiver, and Mo Qianxun’s expression grew even more incredulous.
“One transaction could destroy an entire world? That’s terrifying!” she exclaimed, unable to imagine the scene.
---
[At first, I shared your skepticism,] 008 nodded. [But then the predecessor explained that the binder who sold powerful weaponry to a doomed world thought some would hand over the weapons to authorities, but others saw themselves as chosen, above the law, and just ignored it. They carried out several large-scale terrorist attacks quickly. The government intervened but only after huge costs. The weapons were confiscated, yet some leaders, emboldened by such power, caused trouble everywhere. A world war broke out and wiped out humanity.]
Mo Qianxun’s eyes widened. “Horrifying!”
After hearing 008, Zhao Jianguo hung up the phone and looked at Mo Qianxun. “Qianxun, let’s hold a meeting soon.”
Mo Qianxun had no objections.
An hour later, looking around the conference room at people she’d only seen on television, Mo Qianxun felt immense pressure.
They had already reviewed previous video materials and reports on their way in and had a basic understanding of her and the system, so she didn’t have to explain again.
Mr. Li sat at the head of the table and addressed everyone: “This meeting is not only about the system issue but also to discuss the national security plan for Huaguo.”
He then looked at Zhao Jianguo.
Zhao Jianguo stood and repeated what 008 had told Mo Qianxun: “Our urgent task is to find a way to detect other systems and binders as soon as they appear and prevent them from selling lethal weapons to civilians.”
The group pondered silently for a moment before an elderly professor suddenly asked, “Are the appearances of other systems and binders random, or can they be arranged specifically?”
At his question, everyone’s gaze turned to Mo Qianxun—and then to 008.
[Their appearances are random! But I can use inter-system sensing to detect their locations instantly.]
On the phone screen, 008 sat in an extravagant chair.
Don’t ask where the chair came from; Mo Qianxun didn’t want to recall how she had been tricked into spending 50 points to buy it.
Although 008 promised to repay her, it still stung—those points were painstakingly earned after seven days of delivering takeout, now gone in one fell swoop.
If recharging points were possible, Zhao Jianguo was ready to spend tens of thousands on it.
“...This is difficult. Even if troops everywhere remain on constant alert, there’s no guarantee someone won’t beat us to it. And what if they appear in other countries?”
---
“Well, if it’s a peace-loving country, it’s somewhat better. But if it happens in a place like Great Beautiful, then there’s really no solution.”
[...Rest assured, I can apply to the company to prioritize Huaguo as the landing zone for any systems dispatched to this world.]
“Is that possible?” Eyes around the room lit up. If so, their worries would ease considerably.
[I cannot guarantee success, but I will try. Please wait.]
Afterward, the virtual avatar on the phone screen just... lay back? Just like that? Was it really not sleeping?
The group then engaged in a series of lively discussions. About an hour later, a new message notification appeared on Mo Qianxun’s “Come a Bit” app.
She minimized the virtual avatar to the top right corner and opened the message.
“Dear Ms. Mo Qianxun, thank you for your feedback. Our company has approved that, going forward, any Multiverse Systems arriving in your dimension will prioritize Huaguo as their landing point and coordinate with 008 in advance. Please prepare appropriate reception measures.
Your feedback is vital to us. Should you have further suggestions or comments, please communicate promptly.”
Silence filled the conference room.
“This Multiverse Group is surprisingly cooperative,” Professor Wang chuckled awkwardly.
Everyone nodded in agreement; none had ever seen such a responsive and efficient company before.
