Chapter Fifty-One: A Fight to the Death
The sudden appearance of a newcomer caused everyone in the hall to rise involuntarily.
He was a young man dressed in white. His nose was tall and straight, his lips thin, and his swordlike brows slanted upward into the few strands of black hair falling beside his temples. His handsome profile and flawless features formed a face beyond reproach.
A small bird perched on his left shoulder. Its body was covered in brilliantly colored feathers, and it was constantly turning its head from side to side, as though inspecting everyone present.
Prince Liang rose to greet him with a hearty laugh. “I never imagined that the esteemed Master of the Profound Heaven Sect would come to visit my residence. You have truly brought honor to this humble place.”
His words left everyone who knew—or did not know—the Sect Master of the Profound Heaven Sect stunned.
Su Yang was especially surprised. In only a few days, he had encountered the Master of the Moonwatch Sect, and now the Master of the Profound Heaven Sect as well. The only one he had yet to see was the Summer Emperor.
The Sect Master of the Profound Heaven Sect was also looking at Su Yang. He gave him a nod, appearing rather pleased with him.
Su Yang did not know whether this had been arranged by Elder Yu, so he could only return the gesture before taking Li Shanshan aside.
With even the Sect Master of the Profound Heaven Sect present, surely the Moonwatch Sect elder would no longer dare act recklessly.
“Prince Liang, you are too kind. I was merely at leisure and happened to learn that your son is celebrating his coming-of-age ceremony today. Since it has been a long time since I last saw you, I thought I would pay you a visit,” the Sect Master said with a smile as warm as spring.
Elder Ruthless wore an unsettled expression. Events had already gone far beyond his control, and the arrival of the Profound Heaven Sect’s master had completely disrupted his plans. For now, he could only wait and see how matters unfolded.
“Greetings, Sect Master,” the Third Prince said, rising to welcome him as well.
“Third Prince, it has been a long time. Truly, you are a dragon among men. Your cultivation has advanced remarkably quickly.”
The Sect Master’s seemingly casual remark immediately drew Su Yang’s attention.
The Third Prince always gave people an unfathomable feeling. Judging from his aura alone, it was impossible to tell how powerful he truly was. Yet from his bearing, he clearly was not someone to be trifled with.
Could he also be the sort who pretended to be weak while secretly possessing great strength?
Su Yang studied the Third Prince and wondered to himself.
“Great Sage Master, can you sense this man’s cultivation level?” Su Yang called into the stone.
There was no response for a long while, so Su Yang gave up.
“You flatter me, Sect Master. I have merely been fortunate,” the Third Prince replied with a smile.
“Three sons in one imperial family, each a peerless genius. The Summer Emperor is truly blessed,” the Sect Master said with a laugh.
“Please, Sect Master, take a seat,” Prince Liang urged.
The servants of the Liang residence hurriedly carried out another high-backed chair and placed it beside Prince Liang before withdrawing.
“Greetings, Sect Master,” Yu Qiuyue said, hastily bowing as well.
The Sect Master merely acknowledged her with a slight gesture and then paid her no further attention. Instead, he turned to Prince Liang.
“Prince Liang, did a battle take place here just now? Why can I still sense such a powerful killing intent?”
“Hahaha, there was indeed a minor incident just now, but everything should be fine now,” Prince Liang replied with a hearty laugh.
Elder Ruthless was displeased by this.
What did he mean, everything was fine? His dignity had yet to be restored. Was this matter simply going to end like this?
“Prince Liang, this matter is far from over,” Elder Ruthless said coldly.
“Hehe, Elder Ruthless, there is no need to lose your temper. It was only a minor matter. Rest assured, I will give you a satisfactory result later.”
Prince Liang was no fool. He knew how to read the wind and adjust his sails. Now that the Sect Master of the Profound Heaven Sect had arrived, what standing did a mere elder of the Moonwatch Sect have left?
“Very well. I shall wait and see what sort of result Your Highness intends to give me,” Elder Ruthless said with a cold snort.
“Elder Ruthless, does this matter concern you?” the Sect Master asked.
“Master Profound, there is no need for you to meddle in this. It is a grudge between me, this boy, and that girl. Could it be that you enjoy interfering in other people’s affairs?”
His tone was hostile, and he seemed entirely unafraid of the Sect Master standing before him.
The Sect Master laughed. “Elder Ruthless, you are as ruthless as ever. But I am afraid this matter is not yours to decide. Besides, I am not meddling in anyone’s affairs, am I?”
“These two are disciples of my Profound Heaven Sect. Tell me, should I not concern myself with them?”
“Hmph. Master Profound, do not try to deceive me. When did these two become disciples of your Profound Heaven Sect? Even if you intend to oppose the Moonwatch Sect, you need not resort to such a ridiculous excuse.”
“Ridiculous? If I say they are disciples of my sect, then they are. What? Dare you touch even a single hair on their heads?”
The Sect Master continued speaking in a warm and pleasant tone, but the meaning behind his words made everyone’s hearts tremble.
Elder Ruthless’s expression darkened. He had never expected the Sect Master of the Profound Heaven Sect to be so forceful. Could it be that these two truly possessed extraordinary identities?
“Very well, Master Profound. Since that is the case, I have nothing more to say. But I will remember this matter. When the time comes, do not blame me for taking matters too far,” Elder Ruthless said, still speaking with hard-edged menace.
The Sect Master paid no heed to his threat. Instead, he turned toward Su Yang.
“You are Su Yang, are you not? Would you be willing to become a disciple of my Profound Heaven Sect?”
Taking in a disciple before everyone present was nothing less than a public slap in the face.
Su Yang was naturally more than willing. “Of course. I have long heard of the Profound Heaven Sect’s renown, and I have eagerly awaited such an opportunity.”
“Hahaha, good. From this moment onward, you are a disciple of my Profound Heaven Sect. And I wish to take you as my personal disciple. Are you willing?”
“Disciple greets Master.”
The sudden turn of events caught everyone in the hall completely off guard.
The boy who had possessed no backing moments ago had suddenly become the personal disciple of the Sect Master of the Profound Heaven Sect. With such a powerful patron behind him, who would still dare lay a hand on him?
The Third Prince watched everything from beginning to end, his heart as calm as still water.
He merely sipped his tea and drank with an air of complete composure.
“Very well. From this moment onward, you are my disciple. If you have any grievances with anyone present, I hope everyone will do me the favor of letting the matter end here,” the Sect Master said, sweeping his gaze across both sides of the hall.
No one dared say a word.
General Manager Yu finally allowed herself to breathe a sigh of relief. She had been caught in the middle and placed in an awkward position, but now that the Sect Master had personally intervened, many difficulties had been spared.
Even she had not expected the Sect Master to come in person, much less accept Su Yang as his disciple. Such favor was exceedingly rare.
Just as everyone believed that the Sect Master’s arrival had brought the day’s conflict to an end, Su Yang suddenly spoke.
“Master, there is something I wish to ask of you. I hope you will grant my request.”
“Oh? What is it?” The Sect Master looked at Su Yang, a faint furrow appearing between his brows.
The main reason he had personally descended the mountain was to see for himself how talented the young man who possessed a Supreme Bloodline truly was.
As the Sect Master of the Profound Heaven Sect, he had naturally already learned of what had happened in Northwatch City that night.
Wang Yiyi’s talent had also made him somewhat wary. Relations between the Profound Heaven Sect and the Moonwatch Sect had grown increasingly tense, and an open conflict could erupt at any moment. When that happened, the contest would come down to foundations and monstrous geniuses.
Although Su Yang was inferior to Wang Yiyi, he still possessed a Supreme Bloodline. There was no reason to reject such a disciple.
He had already witnessed Su Yang’s clash with Elder Ruthless from the shadows. Seeing Su Yang injure the elder with a single punch had filled him with immense delight.
Most remarkable of all was the battle intent Su Yang had displayed. It was enough to make anyone covet him intensely.
Now that Su Yang had formally joined the Profound Heaven Sect and become his personal disciple, the Sect Master had achieved what he wanted. His journey had not been in vain.
Su Yang looked at Elder Ruthless, whose expression remained ugly. The flames of battle ignited once more in his eyes, and confidence surged through his heart.
“Master, I once declared before the Master of the Moonwatch Sect that from now on, whenever I encountered someone from the Moonwatch Sect, I would kill one if I saw one, and kill both if I saw two.”
“A man must keep his word.”
“Therefore, disciple wishes to fight Elder Ruthless to the death—right now!”
