Chapter 6: Tell Her Not to Make Things Too Difficult
Beside him, Wang Mian heard those words and already knew that Li Qing was about to make a move.
Xuan Bao’er didn’t know what a film and television company was, but when she heard that all the big stars listened to her father, it sounded truly impressive. Most importantly, it was something her father had bought!
Xuan Bao’er was so happy she almost jumped up and down. “Daddy is amazing! From now on, I’m going to earn lots and lots of money to spend on Daddy!”
Li Qing’s face was full of the pride of an old father. This child was truly sensible!
“Daddy, Xuan Bao’er is going to play with Auntie now~” The little girl was overjoyed and ran outside to play.
The servants in the villa were long-term employees hired by Li Qing, so he felt completely at ease. Moreover, there were highly professional bodyguards discreetly guarding the premises.
“Qing, from what you’re saying, it seems like you’re going to spend big,” Wang Mian smiled.
Wang Mian was like a worm in Li Qing’s belly; their tacit understanding was almost perfect.
After seeing the little one leave, Li Qing secretly lit a cigarette, carefully turning on the living room’s ventilation before igniting it.
“Hmm, for the sake of the child,” he said. “Don’t make things too difficult for Yang Mi.”
Yang Mi, from pregnancy to giving birth to Xuan Bao’er, had come this far in the entertainment industry over four years, which was no easy feat. Mother and daughter had endured many hardships along the way.
So this was all for the sake of the child.
Wang Mian nodded, fully understanding the weight behind the words “don’t make it too difficult for her.”
“I’ll personally handle this matter.”
…
Meanwhile, inside the Estée Lauder company building in Modu.
“President Chen, isn’t this a breach of contract?” Yang Mi sat on the sofa in the office, her brows slightly furrowed.
“The endorsement deal was already settled, and now you want to replace me. Isn’t that unreasonable?”
Just moments ago, Yang Mi had received a call from Estée Lauder’s office claiming that their previous cooperation was null and void.
She found it hard to accept.
At this stage, after leaving Jiaxing Entertainment, Yang Mi’s acting opportunities and collaborations had already dwindled. She needed a substantial sum of money to fulfill a gamble agreement, and yet, at this critical moment, the only successful collaboration with Estée Lauder was also broken.
“I’m sorry, Miss Yang. I understand this isn’t compliant, so the penalty for breach of contract will be fully compensated to you,” said Chen Yu, the branch general manager, sincerely. “Please sign here, and the breach fee will be transferred to your account shortly.”
Beside him, He Baibai was furious.
“On what grounds are you doing this?” she demanded. “Is it because Sister Mi left Jiaxing that you think she’s useless now?”
“Xiao Bai!” Yang Mi stopped He Baibai from losing her temper. At a time like this, getting angry wouldn’t help and would only make them look childish.
“President Chen, can you tell me the exact reason?” Yang Mi asked coldly.
Chen Yu gave a bitter smile.
“Do you really need me to spell it out? I’m just a manager; some matters are beyond my control.”
Yang Mi took a deep breath and nodded.
“I understand.”
“So who have you chosen to cooperate with?”
Chen Yu did not hide it; after all, once the endorsement advertisement was released, everyone would know.
“We were instructed to find Miss Wu Yufei.”
At the mention of that name, Yang Mi’s brow furrowed deeply, her expression darkening.
She knew Wu Yufei very well—they were former colleagues.
Back when they were at Jiaxing, they were archrivals with a tense relationship.
Now that she had left the company and lost her advantage, the other party was seizing the opportunity to snatch collaborations.
He Baibai was equally furious.
“So it’s her!” she exclaimed. “Just because she has an impressive boyfriend behind her? Just because she has a good relationship with Jiaxing?”
Chen Yu looked at He Baibai without replying but sneered inwardly. Is that not enough?
“Alright, Xiao Bai, let’s go back,” Yang Mi said, not one to drag things out.
She knew that since the other side was absolutely going to break the contract, no amount of refusal on her part would matter.
She might as well sign the papers, take the penalty, and leave the building.
Downstairs, just as they stepped out of the elevator, He Baibai’s expression darkened.
Following her gaze, they saw a woman wearing frog-eye sunglasses slowly approaching.
She wore a short dress and high heels, her gait revealing a flash of fair thigh and a proud figure.
Her face was full of youthful collagen—delicate and exquisite—but there was an unmistakable aura of malice about her.
“Sister Mi, what a small world,” He Baibai grumbled.
The woman approaching was none other than the current top star and Jiaxing Media’s “top card,” Wu Yufei—Yang Mi’s archrival.
They say enemies see red upon meeting, but Yang Mi had no mood to stoop to that level. She pulled He Baibai forward without even a greeting.
But Wu Yufei stopped in her tracks, a look of surprise on her face.
“Is that you, Sister Mi?” she said. “It’s been a while since we last met! Are you here to negotiate an endorsement too?”
Her tone was theatrical, clearly intended to provoke Yang Mi.
The endorsement deal was orchestrated behind the scenes by Wu Yufei, with the help of her boyfriend’s connections, successfully pushing Yang Mi out and pocketing millions in fees herself.
Yang Mi’s gaze was cold as she replied lowly, “So, are you here to brag to me? How boring.”
Without looking back, Yang Mi strode away.
But Wu Yufei, feeling blocked, wasn’t about to let it go so easily. She quickened her pace and smiled, “Yang Mi, don’t forget to pay the breach fee on the gamble agreement. I’ve had my eye on a villa in the East District lately—I’m waiting for the money.”
Arrogant and overreaching, Wu Yufei was the very embodiment of a petty villain!
He Baibai couldn’t hold back any longer. She spun around and snapped angrily, “Wu Yufei, are you really that boring—a despicable woman!”
Hearing this, Wu Yufei’s face immediately darkened.
“What did you say?!”
She hadn’t expected one of Yang Mi’s assistants to dare insult her. It was outrageous!
Wu Yufei stepped forward and slapped out with her hand.
But He Baibai was quick and dodged with a backward step.
Yang Mi’s expression also turned stern.
“Wu Yufei, if you dare lay a hand on me, don’t blame me for being rude.”
Seeing the icy determination in Yang Mi’s eyes, Wu Yufei instinctively lowered her hand.
Though Yang Mi no longer had great influence, Wu Yufei knew her temper well enough—she truly would dare to fight in public! Such disgrace was simply not worth it.
Wu Yufei sneered.
“Yang Mi, if only you could change your temper, wouldn’t you have become a huge star by now?”
“Alright, we’ll see about that.”
“I’m off to sign the contract. Goodbye.”
With that, Wu Yufei stepped into the elevator.
After signing the contract, Wu Yufei came downstairs with a look of triumph.
Surrounded by security guards, she climbed into a Mercedes-Benz business car.
“President Zeng, guess who I just saw?” Wu Yufei said with a smile, glancing at the woman beside her.
The woman was in her forties, the chairwoman of Jiaxing Media, Zeng Jia.
Dressed in a suit, Zeng Jia sat calmly in the back seat.
“Yang Mi?” she replied coolly.
