Chapter 9: Senior Sister?
After Lu Changfeng was taken away by Yue Qingshuang, Ye Yunlan thought of giving him a lesson. At the same time, she wanted to test whether he had truly become a direct disciple.
To Ye Yunlan’s surprise, Lu Changfeng showed her no respect at all, as if none of them even existed in his eyes.
“Scoundrel!” Liu Chengqian was instantly enraged. He stepped in front of Ye Yunlan and shouted fiercely at Lu Changfeng, “Senior Sister is speaking to you out of kindness—that’s your honor! And yet, you still don’t know how to restrain yourself? Looks like you need a proper lesson today! To teach you the order of seniority!”
With those words, a powerful aura surged from the young man, crashing toward Lu Changfeng like a roaring gale. The strong energy swept through the valley, making the trees rustle loudly.
“Brother Liu’s aura has grown even stronger!”
“Yeah! I bet it won’t be long before he steps into the Zhou Tian Realm!”
“Hmph, this newcomer is too arrogant. Giving him a lesson is well-deserved!”
The surrounding disciples whispered among themselves, praising Liu Chengqian. He beamed with pride and said to Lu Changfeng, “You’re only at the first level of Meridian Unblocking. Kneel down and apologize to Senior Sister, and I might spare you this once!”
Lu Changfeng’s expression remained as calm as still water. “There’s a sect rule written on the jade token,” he said. “As an ordinary disciple, what are the consequences of attacking a direct disciple?”
At this, Liu Chengqian’s face stiffened, and the fluctuations around him suddenly froze. Lu Changfeng observed his reaction with cool detachment and stepped forward slowly. As he advanced, the surrounding aura seemed to gather, ready to crush him.
Yet Lu Changfeng remained indifferent to the threat. Just as the energy from the ninth-level Meridian Unblocking was about to strike, Liu Chengqian abruptly inhaled sharply. He reversed the flow of his spiritual energy against its natural course, forcibly retracting it.
“Pfft!”
The violent reversal caused chaos within his meridians, and his spiritual energy surged uncontrollably. He spat a mouthful of fresh blood onto the ground. Still, Lu Changfeng ignored him and continued forward without any aura flowing from his body.
This overwhelming presence sent chills down the spines of everyone present, freezing their hearts with cold dread.
When Lu Changfeng reached Liu Chengqian’s side, he said coldly, “If you don’t dare to make a move, then don’t provoke.”
“Get lost!”
“You—!!”
Liu Chengqian’s face twisted with rage, wiping the blood from his lips, his eyes blazing with fury. He wanted nothing more than to strike Lu Changfeng down right then and there. But he knew that any attack would be a capital offense.
A direct disciple’s status was not something an ordinary disciple like himself could violate.
So he could only watch as Lu Changfeng calmly walked away.
After Lu Changfeng left, Liu Chengqian clenched his fists tightly, grinding his teeth as he growled coldly, “Arrogant bastard! Even if I can’t strike you myself, there are plenty of ways in the Dao Yan Sect to make you suffer! Just wait!”
...
After parting from Liu Chengqian and the others, Lu Changfeng put the matter out of his mind.
Just as he stood there pondering which direction to take, a rustling sound from the nearby grass interrupted his thoughts.
“Who’s there?”
Lu Changfeng’s face grew cold as he spoke with icy detachment, “Stop hiding and come out!”
The rustling ceased, and then a round, plump figure emerged. He looked honest and simple, trotting up to Lu Changfeng about ten feet away, lowering his posture and cupping his hands respectfully.
“Senior Brother!”
“I am Zhou Xuantong... I...”
He kept his head down, occasionally glancing up at Lu Changfeng.
After waiting for some time, Lu Changfeng frowned slightly, watching Zhou Xuantong’s demeanor and said indifferently, “If you have nothing to say, then forget it.”
With that, he turned to leave.
Lu Changfeng had already assessed this pudgy fellow’s cultivation level when he first appeared.
“Wait!”
Zhou Xuantong bit his lip anxiously as Lu Changfeng tried to leave, and then hurriedly spoke, “Senior Brother, your talent is unparalleled! The entire Dao Yan Sect knows it!”
“I’m coming to you boldly today because I want to find a... patron.”
“I’ve been in the Dao Yan Sect for two years and know it fairly well!”
“I hope Senior Brother will grant me this favor!”
Lu Changfeng was struck by this. He indeed needed someone who understood the sect to guide him. Moreover, he needed someone to handle miscellaneous matters.
With this in mind, Lu Changfeng nodded slightly, his expression softening. “You can follow me. But I must see your value.”
He pointed to the location of his cave dwelling in his hand. “Lead the way!”
Lu Changfeng had no time for idle chatter. If one wished to follow him, they had to prove their worth.
Upon hearing this, Zhou Xuantong’s face lit up with excitement. He quickly ran ahead to lead the way.
After a short while, Lu Changfeng arrived at the entrance of his cave dwelling. The surrounding spiritual energy was thick; even ordinary breathing would draw it into one’s body.
“No wonder this is the most mysterious Moon Cold Peak,” Lu Changfeng murmured, nodding with satisfaction.
Although it didn’t compare to any of his previous cave dwellings in past lives, it was excellent within the Tianyuan Domain.
Standing beside Lu Changfeng, Zhou Xuantong smiled, “Senior Brother Lu truly is a direct disciple! The spiritual energy here is even richer than in our own caves!”
“If I could train here, breaking through to the fourth level of Meridian Unblocking in a month or two wouldn’t be a problem!”
Lu Changfeng waved him inside the cave dwelling.
Inside, the space was spacious but simply arranged—a table with four meditation cushions quietly placed in the center.
Deep within, the spiritual energy had condensed into a tangible form. White spiritual mist swayed with Lu Changfeng’s movement.
On the ground, faint droplets of moisture appeared—natural manifestations of concentrated spiritual energy.
Lu Changfeng walked to the heart of the white mist and immediately felt a refreshing clarity. Even the flow of spiritual energy through his meridians quickened.
He lowered his head, gazing at a hollow in the ground, murmuring, “Not bad!”
“There’s even a natural spiritual vein here!”
“Spiritual energy for cultivation won’t be an issue.”
Then he turned to Zhou Xuantong and said calmly, “Since you want to work for me, I won’t treat you unfairly.”
“For the next month, you may train in my cave for one hour each day.”
“If after a month you haven’t reached the fourth level of Meridian Unblocking, then you can leave on your own.”
Upon hearing this, Zhou Xuantong was stunned for a moment, then his face lit up with joy as he bowed repeatedly.
“Thank you, Senior Brother!”
“Rest assured, I won’t disappoint your expectations!”
Lu Changfeng made no reply. He turned and sat cross-legged on his meditation cushion, beginning to cultivate.
Though his eyes were closed, he could still sense every move of those around him.
Zhou Xuantong’s cultivation was far too low—a mere third level of Meridian Unblocking after two years in the Dao Yan Sect? Such a person was hardly worthy to be near him.
But if he improved, Lu Changfeng would be glad to have someone by his side.
