Chapter 16: I Will Take Care of Her
“Wait.”
Lin Xilan called out to Zhou Yuheng, and he and Song Qingli turned back simultaneously.
“I didn’t come here today to talk about divorce.”
Lin Xingmian’s life was now in the grasp of Old Master Zhou, and Lin Xilan knew that if she insisted on divorcing, the kidney source arrangement would definitely fall through. She was very clear about whom she was about to offend.
Zhou Yuheng released Song Qingli’s hand and stepped in front of Lin Xilan, his voice tinged with anger.
“What are you crazy about?”
Lin Xilan: “I’m not crazy. Zhou Yuheng, I’ve told you the reason—I’m taking care of my sick sister now. As for the divorce, we can talk about that later.”
To Zhou Yuheng, these words were nothing but Lin Xilan playing him for a fool.
“Are you going to betray me after using me?”
Lin Xilan turned her head aside. “If you say so, then so be it.”
No sooner had Lin Xilan spoken than she suddenly felt a burning pain on her left cheek. Her first instinct was to strike back.
But before Lin Xilan’s palm could land on Song Qingli’s face, Zhou Yuheng tightly gripped her wrist.
“Let go!”
Every cell in Lin Xilan’s body wanted to fight.
Zhou Yuheng released his grip and coldly said, “You didn’t get that slap without reason.”
The feeling of having no one to back you up was truly miserable, but Lin Xilan was no ordinary girl—she was already used to it.
Lin Xilan fixed her gaze on Song Qingli’s face and said, “I’ll get that slap back sooner or later.”
Song Qingli was indifferent, clearly seeing herself as the victim.
“Why? I trusted you so much. You were the one who said that as long as Zhou Yuheng agreed to your conditions, you would divorce. So why are you still clinging to him now?”
“Lin Xilan, do you think you’re being fair?”
From Song Qingli’s perspective, she was furious—she was the one who should have been married to Zhou Yuheng.
They had pursued each other since college, loved each other for so many years, and should have been married long ago. Lin Xilan was just an interloper who shouldn’t even exist.
Lin Xilan sighed deeply, feeling she really needed to have a serious talk with Song Qingli.
“Fair? Who’s fair? Are you fair? You had an affair with him during our marriage, openly appeared together in various places, and even got pregnant.”
“Did I say anything? Didn’t I accommodate you all along?”
Song Qingli was ungrateful. “Lin Xilan, true accommodation means letting go.”
“Zhou Yuheng loves me.”
Lin Xilan said helplessly, “I know, you don’t need to keep repeating it. It’s just that right now, I can’t divorce Zhou Yuheng. Don’t blame me for this—blame Zhou Yuheng.”
Lin Xilan shifted the blame onto Zhou Yuheng. “He was the one who wanted to marry me in the first place and promised to treat me well.”
Lin Xilan was never a naïve romantic; deep down, she had a sinister streak. She wasn’t without kindness toward Zhou Yuheng, but kindness came at the cost of being hurt. If that was the price, then it was better to destroy everything together.
As expected, Song Qingli’s face changed the moment Lin Xilan said this. She glanced back at Zhou Yuheng and stormed off.
Zhou Yuheng chased after her, leaving Lin Xilan alone.
She looked up at the slogan hanging on the wall of the Civil Affairs Bureau, once naively thinking she would never set foot in this place again.
Lin Xilan turned and followed, her mood tumultuous. Now she had completely torn apart her relationship with Zhou Yuheng—the road ahead would not be easy.
Deep in thought, Lin Xilan suddenly slipped as she descended the stairs, tumbling down and losing consciousness.
_
Zhou Yuheng chased all the way to Song Qingli’s home.
“Get lost!”
At the door, Song Qingli turned and pushed Zhou Yuheng away, tears streaming down her face, heartbreaking to see.
“I didn’t expect her to change her mind.”
Zhou Yuheng leaned against the door, preventing Song Qingli from closing it.
Song Qingli felt that Zhou Yuheng and Lin Xilan had conspired to deceive her.
“Why would she change her mind and you not know? Zhou Yuheng, why can’t you admit you never wanted a divorce?”
Zhou Yuheng smirked, “I’ve gone this far—do you think I don’t want a divorce?”
“If I didn’t want a divorce, I wouldn’t have agreed to Lin Xilan’s ridiculous conditions.”
Given Song Qingli’s state, she saw everything as an excuse now.
“Then why did you get involved with Lin Xilan? If you hadn’t married her, would any of this have happened?”
Zhou Yuheng sighed, “I didn’t get involved with Lin Xilan. Our marriage was arranged by the family. You had gone abroad, and I couldn’t find you. I felt that if it wasn’t you, it wouldn’t have mattered whom I married.”
Song Qingli covered her ears. “I don’t want to hear this. You always have an excuse. Zhou Yuheng, I beg you, please stop provoking me, okay?”
Zhou Yuheng stepped forward, “No, I’m very clear now—I want you.”
“Me? But if you love me, why give me such a disgraceful identity? Do you know how I feel now? I despise myself.”
Zhou Yuheng pulled Song Qingli into his arms. “Wait a little longer, I will deal with Lin Xilan.”
He really would. Lin Xilan had stood him up, and he wouldn’t let her off easily.
