Chapter 4: Recklessness
Lin Shuyun entered the room with Xiao Nan, and everyone immediately turned to look.
“Sis, you actually brought him here?” Lin Ziqing was somewhat surprised.
“Kid, was that your line just now?” Xu Wei looked at Xiao Nan and asked.
“That’s right,” Xiao Nan nodded.
“What kind of greenhorn dares to speak to Master Xu like that?” He Zhonghai frowned, displeased, and glared sharply at Xiao Nan.
“Mr. Xiao is the divine doctor I invited back specifically to treat my father,” Lin Shuyun explained.
Divine doctor?
Upon hearing those words, everyone in the ward exchanged glances, each seeing a hint of suppressed amusement in the others' eyes.
Surely, the eldest miss of the Lin family had been deceived.
Xiao Nan was too young to bear the title of divine doctor.
“A divine doctor? Sounds more like some charlatan to me.”
“Exactly. Medical skills require years of experience. What could this kid possibly know?”
“Kids these days have no shame, pretending to be experts without even considering whom they’re messing with.”
Many attending physicians at the First People’s Hospital began to voice their doubts.
“Don’t misunderstand. Mr. Xiao is not a fraud. He’s a true divine doctor. He cured my illness, and my sister can vouch for that,” Lin Shuyun said, turning her gaze to Lin Ziqing.
Lin Ziqing turned his head away, seemingly unwilling to admit that Xiao Nan had truly healed his sister.
If just randomly poking around counted as healing, then everyone would be a divine doctor.
“Kid, can you really treat illnesses?” Lin Guoan, the third brother, fixed a sharp gaze on Xiao Nan.
“I can’t say much else, but I can promise that if even I can’t save someone, then no one in this world can,” Xiao Nan replied with a confident smile.
His words were both bold and arrogant, drawing a chorus of hisses around him.
Even Lin Ziqing snorted with disdain. “What a braggart! Even Master Xu wouldn’t dare say that here, yet you speak so shamelessly!”
“Who, me?” Xiao Nan glanced at Xu Wei and shook his head. “His skills are insufficient, still needs improvement.”
“Kid, what are you saying?” Xu Wei’s face darkened instantly.
As a senior figure in the medical field, being talked back to by such a greenhorn was humiliating.
“If I’m not mistaken, the patient contracted miasma two years ago during a trip to some remote mountain region. The poison has since hidden itself in his bloodstream, continuously eroding his internal organs.”
“Now his vital organs are on the verge of collapse, any moment could bring complete organ failure.”
“Fortunately, he’s been taking precious supplements like ginseng to sustain his life and reinforce his organs; otherwise, he would have died long ago, not lasting until now.”
Xiao Nan spoke slowly.
As he detailed Lin Guodong’s illness, those around him showed expressions of surprise.
Even Xu Wei’s gaze changed.
It had taken him a long time to diagnose Lin Guodong’s condition, but Xiao Nan had done so in just a few words.
“Surely my sister told you about Dad’s condition,” Lin Ziqing suddenly said.
Everyone else nodded in understanding.
Lin Shuyun shook her head. “No, I never told Mr. Xiao about Dad’s illness.”
“Kid, can you truly cure Mr. Lin’s disease?” Xu Wei looked at Xiao Nan skeptically.
“I said it before: under my care, unless I want a patient to die, they won’t,” Xiao Nan answered arrogantly.
Xu Wei pondered for a moment, then addressed the group: “Everyone, let this kid have a try. Mr. Lin’s illness can no longer be delayed.”
With Xu Wei’s approval, no one objected.
Lin Guoan approached Xiao Nan, firmly patted his shoulder, and said gravely, “Kid, I suggest you pray that you truly have the skills; otherwise, you’ll regret ever coming to this hospital today.”
Xiao Nan smiled faintly, saying nothing more.
He gestured for everyone to give some space.
Approaching Lin Guodong, he pulled down the patient’s shirt and took out a row of silver needles from his pocket.
The needles varied in length and thickness.
Then, under the watchful eyes of all, Xiao Nan flicked his wrist, and a silver needle was swiftly inserted into a major acupuncture point.
A streak of golden light flashed briefly along the needle.
Xu Wei’s expression changed drastically.
“Qi-guided acupuncture?!”
“Master Xu, what is qi-guided acupuncture?” He Zhonghai asked curiously.
“Qi-guided acupuncture, as the name implies, uses the body’s true qi to manipulate the needle technique. But true qi is extremely difficult to cultivate.”
“Unexpectedly, this young man has mastered qi-guided acupuncture. Perhaps Mr. Lin really can be cured by him,” Xu Wei explained.
Xiao Nan’s hands moved continuously, fingers flying like blooming lotus petals.
One by one, silver needles pierced every acupuncture point on Lin Guodong at a speed too fast for the naked eye, each radiating a faint golden glow.
When the thirteenth needle was placed, Xu Wei suddenly staggered back two steps, his entire body trembling with excitement.
“The Ghost Gate Thirteen Needles? I never thought I’d witness the Ghost Gate Thirteen Needles in my lifetime. Now I can die with no regrets!”
“Master Xu, what exactly is the Ghost Gate Thirteen Needles?” He Zhonghai asked in confusion.
He had never seen Xu Wei so uncharacteristically emotional.
“The Ghost Gate Thirteen Needles are a legendary acupuncture technique in traditional Chinese medicine,” Xu Wei said. “It is said to be able to snatch souls back from the King of Hell himself.”
“As long as the patient still has a breath of life, even if just passed, this technique can pull them back from death.”
“This method defies the heavens and is not passed down publicly. Even I believed it to be mere legend until now.”
“Moreover, I am fortunate enough to witness it firsthand—truly a blessing for three lifetimes.”
Xu Wei’s excitement was uncontrollable.
Everyone in the ward exchanged incredulous glances.
When Xiao Nan withdrew the needles, he faced the expectant crowd with a casual smile. “It’s done.”
Lin Guodong still had not awakened. A resident physician muttered softly, “What’s with this Ghost Gate Thirteen Needles? Sounds impressive, yet the patient is still unconscious.”
“We’ve been treating him for months with no progress. How could a handful of tiny silver needles cure him?”
“Then what’s the point of us?”
He had barely finished speaking when He Zhonghai shot him a fierce glare.
Wasn’t he just slapping Master Xu in the face?
Yet, deep down, he also felt Xu Wei’s words were somewhat exaggerated.
Just as the thought crossed his mind, Lin Guodong on the bed suddenly coughed twice and abruptly opened his eyes.
“Cough, cough!”
