Chapter 9: Flaunting Wealth
At that moment, Sang Ye suddenly recalled something. The last time she had a stomach upset, Xie Yirou had been unusually attentive, even taking her to the hospital. Given Xie Yirou’s usual temperament, she wasn’t someone who would be so considerate. But if she had already been in contact with the Bai family and started plotting before that, it would make sense.
No wonder the last time Sang Ye fell ill, Xie Yirou was so attentive—taking her to the hospital, registering her, and accompanying her for blood tests. It turned out she had already begun her scheme then.
First, she obtained Sang Ye’s DNA, then stole the heirloom left to her by her grandfather, all to replace Sang Ye and become the Bai family’s heiress.
If Xie Yirou hadn’t destroyed the heirloom left by their grandfather, Sang Ye might have truly acted as if nothing had happened, since she wasn’t very attached to that identity. But she not only took it, she also damaged the heirloom!
Compared to her never-seen parents, it was clear that her grandfather, who had raised her from childhood, mattered more to her.
Just then, a sharp, screeching sound of brakes came from the doorway.
Creak—
The sound of braking caught Yaoyao’s attention and pulled Sang Ye’s focus back as she looked toward the door.
A BMW was parked at the entrance.
Yaoyao’s eyes widened, her voice involuntarily rising a notch. “A BMW 7 Series!! That car must be worth at least one to two million!”
She had a close friend who was a livestream host and knew all about car models. Recently, her friend had mentioned wanting to buy this exact model.
She never expected her friend hadn’t bought it yet, but today she would be the first to see one.
The next moment, Yaoyao saw a woman step out of the car, dressed stunningly and adorned in luxury from head to toe. In her hand was the latest Hermes bag, notoriously difficult to obtain.
She wore an Hermes bracelet on her wrist and high heels on her feet, swaying her hips as she strode into the clinic.
Seeing that they hadn’t responded for a while, she took off her sunglasses, lifted her chin arrogantly, and said, “What, haven’t seen me for a few days? Don’t recognize me?”
When the others removed their sunglasses, Yaoyao stood up in disbelief and shouted sharply, “Xie Yirou!!”
It wasn’t surprising that Yaoyao was so shocked—Xie Yirou had changed drastically.
Her hair was styled in big waves, paired with fiery red lips. Her exquisite makeup enhanced her features, making her look dazzlingly beautiful, entirely unrecognizable from before.
“From now on, call me Bai Yirou, thank you,” said Bai Yirou, casually slipping her sunglasses into her bag.
She then looked around the shop, clicking her tongue twice. “Sang Ye, your place is still so shabby. But with your little money, you couldn’t possibly afford anything upscale. Want me to pay to redecorate it for you?”
She turned to Sang Ye with mockery shining in her eyes.
“Oh, by the way, you probably don’t know, but my biological parents found me—they’re the Bai family. They’ve treated me so well. Not only did they give me five percent of the company’s shares, but also a villa worth over a hundred million. They said they’d give me five million a month for pocket money—too much to even spend. Waking up every day is just spending money,” she complained.
“When I said I wanted to go shopping, they even bought me a car. They were worried I’d get tired, so they assigned a driver for me.”
She raised her arm helplessly and said, “Just now, I went shopping, and the Hermes salesperson seemed pretty strange. I asked for the newest model, she made me wait a bit, then just handed me this bag. I heard it’s hard to get? I don’t know how, but as soon as I arrived, she gave it to me. Only cost a few hundred thousand—barely worth mentioning.”
Yaoyao listened with a face turning green with anger.
She finally understood—Bai Yirou came today just to flaunt her wealth!
Worried Bai Yirou might say something even more outrageous, Yaoyao said grimly, “Are you here for your pet’s medical care? If not, you’re not welcome here!”
Bai Yirou shot her a sharp glare. “Do you get to speak when I’m talking to Sang Ye?”
Yaoyao was furious. “You—”
Before she could finish, Sang Ye grabbed her and shook her head.
Bai Yirou noticed their interaction and sneered, “The employee you hired really sticks up for you.”
Sang Ye nodded. “Yaoyao is pretty good.”
Bai Yirou looked down on such workplace camaraderie. It was just people under the same roof pretending to be loyal for a paycheck.
Who knows what they said behind one’s back?
If any other job paid better, they’d probably run faster than anyone.
It was all a show, and Sang Ye actually took it seriously.
Bai Yirou clicked her tongue inwardly. Her little cousin was pitiful—born an heiress but never enjoying the life of one, stuck in this shabby little shop.
But she didn’t pity Sang Ye; her own foolishness shouldn’t hold Bai Yirou back from living well.
Though she found the arranged marriage a bit distasteful—she’d heard the fiancé was ill and wondered if he could even live a normal life.
If not, what use was a husband like that?
Even less than a stick.
Bai Yirou curled her lips disdainfully. Maybe she’d talk to her father about switching to a marriage alliance with the Xing family. She’d heard the Xing family’s young master was the captain of the criminal police, tall and handsome—wasn’t that better than someone sick?
She decided then and there that the moment she returned, she’d bring it up with her parents. They felt guilty toward her; maybe if she cried a little, they’d agree.
Bai Yirou had no qualms about calling the Bai parents “mom and dad.” It felt perfectly natural.
Because, now, she truly regarded the Bai parents as her real parents.
Suddenly, she seemed to remember something. “Oh right, I also bought you some gifts. You probably never used anything expensive before, and I guess you’d never dare to buy such things yourself, so I got some for you. After all, I was your cousin once—consider it a little worldly exposure from me, your cousin.”
She waved her hand lightly, and a tall man in a black suit, waiting outside, stepped in carrying two bags.
At that moment, they noticed a few people had gathered outside, eyeing the luxury car at the door and occasionally peeking inside.
Bai Yirou handed the bags to Sang Ye. “Here, for you. But since we’re cousins, don’t say your cousin doesn’t spoil you.”
Sang Ye listened calmly to everything Bai Yirou said, then gave a meaningful smile. “How do you know that everything you have now isn’t just a dream?”
Bai Yirou bristled as if her tail had been stepped on and shouted angrily, “What do you mean?! I’m kindly giving you gifts, and you actually curse me!”
Sang Ye’s words felt like a spell, making Bai Yirou suspicious. Did Sang Ye already know something?
But if she did, there was no way she’d remain indifferent to the Bai family’s power.
Could it just be a coincidence?
Or maybe Sang Ye was just jealous!
Jealous that she had become the Bai family’s daughter and possessed things she could never have in her lifetime!
Yes, it must be that!
