Seeing that he didn’t move, Sang Ye suddenly realized that, as a pet doctor, she hadn’t even examined the animal patient before jumping to conclusions—it didn’t seem very professional. She hurriedly explained, “I saw it dry heaving a few times just now, plus it’s lethargic. I suspect it might have eaten something wrong that it couldn’t digest, causing its body to reject it. The dry heaving, inability to eat, and unsuccessful vomiting have led to loss of appetite and low spirits. But to confirm this, we need to do an ultrasound.”

After hearing her explanation, Pei Jun’s doubts were dispelled. He picked up the cat and followed her. The ultrasound was completed. It confirmed that Sang Ye was right: the ragdoll cat’s abdomen showed an object about two by three centimeters in size.

“No worries, it’s not a big problem. I’ll first give the cat some medication to induce vomiting and see if it can bring up the object,” Sang Ye said reassuringly after carefully examining the images.

Hearing this, Pei Jun gave a brief response, visibly relieved—the tightness in his lips eased.

Sang Ye was slightly taken aback by his brief reply. So he could speak after all; she had thought he was mute since this was the first time she’d heard his voice after all this time.

Pei Jun paid no mind to her surprise, as long as Yun Duo was cured.

Shortly after taking the medication, the ragdoll began dry heaving, and then suddenly vomited—twice—bringing up that mysterious two-by-three centimeter object.

It was a catnip toy, with a small piece bitten off.

Sang Ye breathed a sigh of relief. At least it was vomited up. If it couldn’t be brought up or passed naturally, surgery would be necessary.

Pei Jun also recognized the bitten piece—it was from the toy he had bought for Yun Duo some time ago, one she loved so much she even cuddled it while sleeping.

Since Yun Duo had been unwell since yesterday, he hadn’t noticed the toy was damaged.

Realizing this was the cause of Yun Duo’s discomfort all along, Pei Jun’s lips twitched with a hint of guilt. He carefully took a tissue and wiped the dirt from the cat’s mouth.

Sang Ye glanced at him and noticed that only when he was with the cat did his features soften.

Softly, she said, “Now that she’s vomited it out, she’ll be fine. I’ll give you some probiotics to take home to help restore her gut flora and stimulate her appetite. If she still refuses to eat, bring her back and I’ll take another look.”

As she spoke, she fetched the probiotics and handed them to Pei Jun.

At that moment, a couple carrying a dog suddenly entered and began shouting right at the door.

“You black-hearted shop! My son ate your dog food and now he’s vomiting and having diarrhea! What kind of rotten product are you selling? If anything happens to my son, I swear I’ll smash this shop to pieces!”

“Exactly! You’ve made poor Kuge suffer terribly! You’re making money off ill-gotten gains and don’t fear retribution!”

“Everyone come see! Our Kuge was lively and full of energy just yesterday, but after eating your dog food, look at him now!”

“Wahhh... my poor Kuge... I’m so sorry, I thought the clinic’s dog food would be better, but who knew it would end like this...”

Hearing the couple’s lament outside, Sang Ye frowned and said, “Excuse me, I’ll go handle this.”

She hurried out.

Seeing them, Sang Ye calmly said, “Hello, I’m the owner of this clinic. Please tell me what the problem is. We will cooperate fully to resolve any issues.”

Their shouting had already attracted quite a crowd outside.

The man immediately approached Sang Ye, clutching the dog, shouting angrily, “So you’re the owner! Look what your dog food has done to my dog! Though he’s a dog, he’s a living being! Aren’t you afraid of divine punishment?”

Sang Ye looked at the dog in his arms—it was weak and listless.

“I’m really fed up! This black-hearted couple deliberately drugged my dog! Once I recover, the first thing I’ll do is make you regret it!”

Upon hearing the dog’s thoughts in the man’s embrace, Sang Ye understood immediately—they were here to cause trouble deliberately!

Thankfully, she could understand the dog’s thoughts; otherwise, she might have thought the problem was with the clinic’s dog food.

Sang Ye asked the couple, “So you’re saying your dog became like this after eating our dog food?”

The woman confidently replied, “Yes! He only changed after eating your dog food. He was fine before!”

“Yeah! He was fine when I took him running this morning!”

“Everyone judge for yourselves. I even have videos of us running this morning, but look at him now. Kuge has only eaten your dog food during this time—nothing else.”

The man spoke while showing the dog to the onlookers and playing a video on his phone.

The crowd outside grew larger.

Knowing the truth, Sang Ye was no longer anxious. Calmly, she said, “Bring the dog food you fed him. I will send it to a testing agency. Also, I want to examine your dog. If you don’t trust our clinic, you can take him to a veterinary hospital for tests. I will cover all expenses.”

The couple, provoked by her words, advanced on her angrily. “What do you mean by that? You think we’re lying?”

The man even reached out to push Sang Ye.

At that moment, a modestly dressed woman squeezed through the crowd outside and entered the clinic, using the couple’s advance as cover.

The crowd outside was large, so no one noticed.

Sang Ye backed up as the couple pressed closer until she bumped into a solid ‘wall.’

But the ‘wall’ moved away the next second.

Just then, a large hand grasped the man’s wrist.

The man, agitated, stopped abruptly as if a chicken’s neck had been grabbed.

He tried to pull away but failed.

He looked up at the tall figure of Pei Jun and, unwilling to yield, tried harder but still couldn’t free his hand.

Finally, Pei Jun, disgusted by the dirtiness, threw the man’s hand away and took out a handkerchief to wipe it off.

The man, embarrassed and powerless, shouted furiously at Pei Jun, “Who are you?! Are you in cahoots with them? I’m calling the police!”

“Go ahead,” Pei Jun replied coldly with just two words, standing his ground so firmly that the couple immediately backed down.

If it weren’t for the large sum of money the man had paid, with the balance due only upon success, they would have left already.

Now they had no choice but to stubbornly stay, secretly hoping their plan would succeed.
