Bai Yirou felt a slight relief at this thought, but Sang Ye’s words still left her uneasy. She worried that Sang Ye might notice something amiss and expose her. Yet, after some consideration, she thought it unlikely. So, Bai Yirou attributed Sang Ye’s remarks to jealousy and said, “Forget it, I won’t stoop to your level. It’s normal for you to be jealous—after all, not everyone gets to experience such fortune.”

“Here, take it. Relying on your shop, you’d probably have to work for years just to barely afford their most basic items.”

Sang Ye merely glanced at her indifferently and didn’t take the gift; she cared little for material things. Bai Yirou had someone place it at the checkout counter. Then she grabbed another bag and casually pulled out a silk scarf, handing it to Yaoyao.

“Although your way of speaking isn’t very charming, I’m generous, so this scarf is for you. I happened to buy extras; the colors look good, so I took them all. Whether you tie it on your clothes, around your neck, or on your bag, it’ll look great.”

Yaoyao was caught off guard, suddenly finding an unexpected item in her arms. She glanced at it—it was a Hermès scarf, costing at least several thousand yuan each. But with quiet dignity, she said, “Thank you, but I don’t need it. I don’t want to waste your kindness.”

Bai Yirou shrugged. “If you don’t want it, just throw it away.” Stretching lazily, she said, “I’ve been shopping all day; I’m exhausted. I’m going to get a spa treatment. Bye~” With that, she turned and walked away.

Just a few steps later, Bai Yirou suddenly stumbled, distracted by something she had seen. Her body instinctively pitched forward. Everyone saw a man dressed entirely in black, tall with long legs, broad shoulders and a narrow waist, holding a cat. Agile yet seemingly casual, he stepped aside just in time.

That single step almost caused Bai Yirou to fall. Luckily, she caught herself, staggering a few steps before regaining balance. She turned in disbelief—what kind of man was this?!

Seeing such a beautiful woman nearly fall, he didn’t even help her! Not only did he not assist, he deliberately avoided her!

Yaoyao couldn’t help but let out a soft laugh at the scene.

Compared to Yaoyao’s laughter, Sang Ye’s lips curved knowingly when she recognized the newcomer.

Bai Yirou’s face flushed with anger, shifting between pale and flushed. Although the man’s clothes bore no labels, his mere presence exuded an invisible pressure. She dared not provoke him—after all, wasn’t Yaoyao just a little girl?

Turning sharply to Yaoyao, Bai Yirou scolded loudly, “What’s so funny? Haven’t you seen someone trip before?!”

Sang Ye stepped in front of Yaoyao protectively. “You’re the one who fell, not Yaoyao. Why yell at her? Weren’t you going to get a spa? I have guests here, so I won’t entertain you.”

Bai Yirou was infuriated by this, but before she could respond, she heard Sang Ye say to the man, “Mr. Pei, please give me Yunduo.”

At those words, Bai Yirou’s eyes widened in shock as she quickly turned to look at the man, no more than a meter away.

Mr. Pei? From the Pei family?

Yunduo poked her head out from Pei Jun’s arms upon hearing Sang Ye’s voice. The cat stood fully upright, tail wagging joyfully.

“Pretty lady, I finally see you! Meow meow meow…”

“I’ve been starving these past few days! The owner is way too slow to respond! Took so long to bring me here! I almost starved to death!”

But to others, it only sounded like “Meow meow meow~”

Next, everyone watched as Yunduo leapt gracefully from Pei Jun’s arms and strutted to Sang Ye’s feet, rubbing her warm body against Sang Ye’s legs, purring and acting adorable.

Pei Jun had been holding Yunduo carefully as she stood, but was caught off guard when she suddenly jumped down, slipping right out of his grasp.

What surprised him more was that after two days of hunger, Yunduo, who usually ignored him, was now rubbing affectionately against Boss Sang.

Pei Jun remained silent, pressing his lips tighter. He vaguely guessed why Yunduo had been trying to escape these days.

Hearing Yunduo’s “thoughts,” Sang Ye was at a loss for how to react, especially when she saw Pei Jun’s expression—she dared not reveal Yunduo’s true condition.

If she told Pei Jun that Yunduo was deliberately starving just to see her…

Respecting and protecting clients is also a doctor’s duty, so Sang Ye kept Yunduo’s “thoughts” to herself. But she figured he could probably guess anyway, since Yunduo’s behavior was so obvious.

At that moment, Sang Ye heard Yunduo say, “Little fish snack~ little fish snack~ I want the little fish snack pretty lady feeds me~”

Upon hearing this, Sang Ye took a little fish snack from her pocket and bent down to offer it to Yunduo.

Yunduo immediately grasped the snack with her furry paws and began munching happily.

Pei Jun saw how at home Yunduo wouldn’t eat, but here she was devouring the snack. He pursed his lips, as if convincing himself, and after a moment said, “Do you have more little fish snacks? I want to buy more.”

Sang Ye handed over the remaining small bag of snacks. “No need. The money you gave last time was enough to buy these. I make them myself. If Yunduo likes them, come back for more when she finishes.”

Pei Jun, who disliked owing favors, immediately transferred 500 yuan to Sang Ye.

Five hundred yuan for one bag of little fish snacks?

Was Pei Jun’s currency reckoned in thousands?

Sang Ye quickly chose to refund him on WeChat.

“Mr. Pei, you don’t have to pay so much for one bag of little fish snacks. You gave too much—I can’t accept it.”

Bai Yirou watched them as if she were invisible, which greatly displeased her, having always been used to attention.

But she noticed the man’s surname was Pei and examined him closely—he was dressed entirely in designer brands.

Could he be connected to the Pei family she was about to be allied with through marriage?

If only her fiancé were like Pei Jun.

She decided to ask.

With what she thought was a charming smile, Bai Yirou extended her hand to Pei Jun. “Hello, Mr. Pei. I’m Bai Yirou, from the prestigious Bai family.”

Pei Jun didn’t even acknowledge her—no glance, no response. He seemed annoyed by her intrusion and took a couple of steps toward Sang Ye, bending down to pick up Yunduo.

He showed no disdain for the ragged paws covered in dirt of his beloved ragdoll cat as he held her close.

Bai Yirou saw Pei Jun walk away, her hand awkwardly hanging mid-air, her face turning from pale to flushed.

She withdrew her hand and spun around, shouting at Pei Jun in anger, “Do you know who I am?! I am the fiancée of the Pei family’s third young master! How dare you ignore me?!”
