Chapter 23: Making a Splash
Meng Wenxuan rubbed his nose; since childhood, he had never been able to hide his emotions from his father.
"Father, I just wanted to hear your opinion. After all, you have more life experience than I do." Meng Wenxuan glanced at his daughter's curious little eyes, his lips twitching slightly.
It seemed his daughter was quite the little inquisitive soul.
"Cut the nonsense and tell me your plan directly." The Master of the Meng family was not buying it; his son had been slippery since he was a child, and even after getting married and having a child, he hadn't changed.
He probably wouldn't change in this lifetime.
Meng Wenxuan stopped playing coy. "Since he knows the Meng family daughter is special, let's just confirm it for him."
The Master’s gaze sharpened. He hadn't expected his son to think the same way he did, which was exactly why he had come to his seventh son's quarters.
"How do you propose we do that?" he asked, wanting to see the deeper thoughts of his youngest son.
"Yueya’s two narrow escapes were because of poison, right? So, let the world know that my daughter is naturally sensitive to toxins. No poison can be hidden from her, whether it’s slipped into someone’s body or hidden in food. Both times, she saved herself by crying and refusing to drink the poisoned milk. Once everyone knows about Yueya’s ability, they won't waste their time trying to poison her anymore." Meng Wenxuan smirked wickedly.
His wife’s comment earlier had reminded him of this; he felt that some things were worth broadcasting.
For instance, his daughter’s talent for identifying poison could be made public.
Since he already knew his daughter was special, he might as well be open about it. The benefit would be that she would never have to worry about being poisoned in her food or drink again.
"I have already sent people out to spread the word."
The Master was in an excellent mood. He had always wondered why his clever seventh son had turned out so wayward—it was simply because he hadn't faced any real challenges yet.
However, he was curious how his little granddaughter actually identified the poison.
Little did he know, Jiaoyue didn't understand poison at all; she merely identified its presence through the colors of the aura of fate.
Meng Wenxuan was not at all surprised that his father had reached the same conclusion; after all, it was the most efficient and time-saving method.
The Master looked down at his granddaughter in his arms, who was listening intently to their conversation, and teased her softly, "Yueya, do you think this is a good idea?"
"Ah!" Jiaoyue waved her tiny hands and kicked her legs, expressing her satisfaction with the plan.
This way, she wouldn't have to worry about anyone poisoning her meals.
The Master laughed. "Yueya, you can eat without worry from now on."
Jiaoyue felt very excited. Eating was a major event for her now. She chatted with her grandfather with "ah-ahs," and the two of them carried on a lively, one-sided conversation.
"Yueya, when Butler Qiu comes in a moment, see if you like him, alright?"
The Master wanted to vet the people around him. Although he trusted Zeqiu, who had grown up with him—a bond that surpassed that of master and servant—the incident with Nanny Liu had left him unsettled. He needed his granddaughter to confirm the man's nature before he could proceed with his next steps.
After all, there were many public matters that required Zeqiu to arrange.
Jiaoyue gave an "ah."
She had seen the butler yesterday, but because her spiritual energy had been insufficient, she couldn't see his aura of fate or hear his inner thoughts.
The Master felt a mix of tenderness and nervousness as he watched his granddaughter. He knew that although Jiaoyue was small, her ability to sense danger was mystical.
Soon, Zeqiu arrived. As soon as he entered the room, Jiaoyue’s gaze fell upon him.
Butler Zeqiu held a brocade box and walked up to the Master. "Master, I have brought the items."
The Master took the box, placed it on the table, and gestured for Zeqiu to open it.
Zeqiu immediately opened the box and looked at the adorable baby in the Master's arms with a smile.
He thought to himself: *The young miss is so cute. She really knows how to grow, picking all the best features from the Seventh Master and his wife. She will surely grow up to be a breathtaking beauty. Look at those bright, intelligent eyes—a truly remarkable child. The Meng family has waited hundreds of years for a daughter; she is indeed extraordinary.*
After Zeqiu entered, Jiaoyue had looked at the top of his head. His aura of fate was good, with a white number sixty-nine, and his forehead was glowing.
For a family servant, this was an exceptionally good aura.
Jiaoyue heard his inner thoughts and detected no malice toward her, but she didn't show her hand immediately; she wanted to observe a bit longer.
The Master pointed to the set of silver utensils in the box and said to his son, "From now on, use this set whenever Yueya eats or drinks."
Meng Wenxuan glanced at them and realized this was the set his father treasured most.
They had plenty of silver tableware at home, but this set had been crafted by his grandfather specifically for his father. The engravings on them were drawn by his grandfather's own hand, and his father had used them as a child. It was the only set of its kind in the world, carrying his father’s deep longing for his own father.
His father hadn't even been willing to let his seven sons or other grandchildren use them, yet he was giving them to Yueya. This showed exactly where Yueya stood in his heart.
He figured that if he ever wanted anything from his father, he could just get his daughter to help, and he would surely get it.
"Grandfather crafted these himself for you, and you used them as a child. Are you really giving them to Yueya?" Meng Wenxuan said this to let his daughter know the history of the set.
The Master looked at the utensils and sighed. "This is heritage. Only when a family has heirs can there be a legacy."
Jiaoyue looked at the utensils in the box—a silver bowl, a silver plate, a silver pot, a silver cup, a silver spoon, and a pair of silver chopsticks. Each piece was meticulously crafted with exquisite patterns that clearly showed their age. Jiaoyue liked them at first sight.
"Ah-ah-ah!" Jiaoyue smiled happily at her grandfather.
Grandfather was so good to her; she loved this set.
Jiaoyue didn't forget the task her grandfather had entrusted to her, and she looked back at Zeqiu with her large eyes.
Zeqiu saw the adorable baby in the Master's arms staring at him, so he began making funny faces to amuse her.
His inner thoughts were busy: *Does the young miss like being teased? At least she doesn't dislike this old man. I really want to hold her. There isn't a more beautiful, soft, and cute baby in the entire Great Yu Empire. Her name is so cute, too—Little Yueya. If I asked to hold her, would the Master agree?*
Hearing this, Jiaoyue reached out her little hands toward Zeqiu. She had to stay on good terms with a butler grandfather who held no malice toward her.
Zeqiu’s eyes lit up with surprise, and his voice trembled slightly with excitement. "Master, is the young miss asking to be held by me?"
The Master paused, looking at his granddaughter, who was reaching out toward Zeqiu. He hadn't held her enough himself.
But seeing her tiny hands outstretched, he respected her wishes and asked, "Yueya, this is Butler Qiu. Do you want Butler Qiu to hold you?"
