Chapter 49: Born with Yin-Yang Eyes, It's a Waste to Let Them Go to Waste
Utterly bored, Bai Qianzhou was lying on the bed learning how to play a video game when a sudden knock sounded at her door.
"Come in."
Seeing Pei Yanxing push the door open, Bai Qianzhou immediately knew what he was here for.
"Are you here because of your eyes?" she asked, keeping her head down as she continued playing her game.
Pei Yanxing was slightly taken aback by her question, but recalling her unusual demeanor, he quickly let go of his doubts.
"You can see them too, can't you?" Pei Yanxing asked in a soft voice.
"Of course I can. But you know, being born with Yin-Yang eyes is something many Taoist practitioners would envy," Bai Qianzhou said, putting her phone aside, crawling off the bed, and walking right up to Pei Yanxing to stare into his eyes.
Uncomfortable, Pei Yanxing took a step back, his gaze flickering away.
He had no idea how others viewed his eyes, but he certainly didn't like them—in fact, he could even say he hated them.
Just because he could see them, those entities constantly haunted him and chattered endlessly in his ear.
At first, unable to tell the living from the dead, he would talk back to them. When others witnessed this, they thought he was talking to himself and had lost his mind, subjecting him to endless pointing and whispering.
Eventually, he grew reticent, refusing to acknowledge either human or ghost so as to avoid any further mistakes.
Because of this, however, he was always regarded as abnormal, and even his parents had dragged him to psychiatric hospitals a few times.
"Can you help me? I... I don't want to see them anymore." Pei Yanxing looked at Bai Qianzhou timidly, his tone laced with nervousness.
Without answering his question, Bai Qianzhou looked toward the door and asked, "Are you guys coming in or what?"
Pei Yanxing turned around to see Pei Yanhui and Pei Yanlin peeking their heads in from the hallway.
"We were just passing by to take a look," Pei Yanlin said, scratching his head, while Pei Yanhui guiltily glanced left and right, protesting his innocence much too obviously.
Bai Qianzhou raised an eyebrow: *Do you expect me to believe that?*
"Can you really help him? If it's true, I'm willing to give you all my allowance," Pei Yanhui said, walking up to Bai Qianzhou and looking at her earnestly.
"Just your allowance isn't enough; all your snacks from now on belong to me too," Bai Qianzhou said, crossing her arms and nodding with utmost seriousness.
"Deal," Pei Yanxing and Pei Yanhui replied in unison, nodding.
Pei Yanlin looked at her helplessly: *How shameless. Is the house short on snacks? Why is she even competing with two younger boys for them?*
"Your Yin-Yang eyes are innate. While I can't cure them completely, I can temporarily block your vision so you won't see those things anymore. Once you turn eighteen, the Yin-Yang eyes might just fade away on their own.
"However, have you ever considered taking up Taoism? It such a waste for someone born with Yin-Yang eyes not to practice."
Instead of taking action immediately, Bai Qianzhou looked at Pei Yanxing with eager anticipation, but Pei Yanxing shook his head rapidly. He had zero interest in such things.
"What a pity," Bai Qianzhou muttered under her breath.
Pei Yanxing: *No, it is not a pity at all!*
Muttering aside, Bai Qianzhou swiftly traced a talisman in the air and pushed it into Pei Yanxing's body.
Pei Yanxing looked down at himself, feeling no physical changes whatsoever. Was that it?
"Alright, off you go to whatever you were doing. I need to sleep, so don't disturb me." With a yawn, Bai Qianzhou collapsed straight back onto the bed.
Pei Yanlin ushered the two younger ones out and pulled them into his own room.
"Yanxing, how is it? Do you feel anything?" Pei Yanlin asked, staring into Pei Yanxing's eyes.
"I don't feel anything special." He wasn't sure if there were any ghosts around right now, but for the moment, he truly saw nothing at all.
