Chapter 33: Has This Girl Figured It Out Again?
"Director Duan, call your wife and tell her not to enter the underground parking garage. Otherwise, you’ll be hosting a funeral tomorrow."
Bai Qianzhou spoke slowly as she counted the banknotes in her hand, her tone carrying a hint of mystery.
"A... a funeral?" Duan Ming’s expression turned grave, his heart tightening. Why would this girl curse him the moment they met?
"Director Duan, make the call. I’ll explain everything to you later." Pei Yanlin knew that if Bai Qianzhou said something like that, trouble was surely brewing.
"Oh? Right." Duan Ming pulled out his phone and dialed.
"Hey, honey, where are you right now?" Duan Ming’s voice was filled with deep concern.
Duan Ming: "You’re going to the mall to pick up some things? Where exactly are you?"
Duan Ming: "You’re planning to park in the underground garage?"
Hearing her response, Duan Ming’s heart skipped a beat. He turned to look at Bai Qianzhou, his face full of confusion. Bai Qianzhou had told him not to let his wife enter the garage—how could this young girl know something he didn't?
"Tell her not to go into the parking garage. Have her go straight to the hospital instead, or else it will be two lives lost," Bai Qianzhou added, her mood quite good now that she had the money.
Duan Ming was shocked once again. He and his wife had indeed discussed going to the hospital that afternoon. How did this girl know that too?
Furthermore, what did she mean by "two lives lost"? Although they had been trying for a child, they hadn't succeeded yet. Could Bai Qianzhou mean that his wife was pregnant? Was he going to be a father?
"Director Duan, why are you spacing out? Say something!" Pei Yanlin urged him urgently.
"Honey, don't go to the underground parking garage. Go straight to the hospital. I’ll come find you right now." Duan Ming hung up and looked at Bai Qianzhou.
"Call the police," Bai Qianzhou said, pulling a lollipop from her pocket and popping it into her mouth.
"Call the police? What for?" Duan Ming and Pei Yanlin froze, exchanging looks.
"There’s a knife-wielding attacker in the Yinding Mall’s underground parking garage. Calling the police is the right thing to do, isn't it?" Bai Qianzhou said casually. Both men were stunned.
"I..." Duan Ming hesitated, his heart filled with overwhelming shock.
"Director Duan, go find your wife. I’ll handle the police," Pei Yanlin said, patting Duan Ming on the shoulder firmly.
"Alright, I’ll leave this to you. I’m going to find my wife. I will personally come to thank you both later." Despite his lingering doubts, the urgency of the situation left Duan Ming no time to ponder; he hurried toward the exit.
Pei Yanlin understood that when Duan Ming said "later," he meant after he confirmed the outcome. He didn't mind; once Duan Ming realized Bai Qianzhou had saved his wife, he would certainly come calling.
Pei Yanlin made a call, then phoned Pei Hexuan and the others to inform them before taking Bai Qianzhou directly to the police station.
"Did I commit some heinous crime? Why are you bringing me here?" Standing outside the station, Bai Qianzhou watched the police officers coming and going, each emitting faint auras of yellow light.
"You didn't do anything wrong. We’re just here to give a statement since we called in the report. Let’s go." Pei Yanlin ushered her inside.
"Name?"
"Bai Qianzhou."
"Age?"
"...Sixteen." Bai Qianzhou looked at Pei Yanlin, confused. Wasn't he the one who made the call? Why were they asking her?
"Can you tell me how you knew there would be a knife-wielding attacker in the Yinding Mall’s underground parking garage?"
