Chapter 26: I Still Prefer Your Unruly Demeanor
“Think you can get away with that?” Bai Qianzhou glared at the nearly deranged female ghost, her temper flaring at once. She slammed the ghost to the ground, her fists raining down like a storm, instantly shattering the ghost’s arrogance.
After being beaten like a rubber ball, the female ghost’s bluster completely died out. She huddled feebly in a corner, looking as delicate and innocent as a small animal that had been cruelly abused—pitiful and helpless, almost too painful to look at.
“Do you know what you did wrong?” Bai Qianzhou asked, planting her hands on her hips and narrowing her eyes at the ghost.
“I’m sorry. I know I was wrong. Please stop hitting me.” The female ghost trembled as she curled up where she was and apologized.
“Honestly, I preferred you the way you were just now, all fierce and unyielding. Seeing you like this puts me in a difficult position. Why don’t you go back to how you were before?”
“N-No, that won’t be necessary!” She might be a ghost, but she was still afraid of being beaten, all right?
Especially since this girl’s punches hurt terribly when she hit ghosts!
Boo-hoo.
Pei Hexuan and the others had witnessed the merciless beating, and they could not help swallowing nervously.
Bai Qianzhou was so vicious when beating a ghost. If those fists landed on a person, wouldn’t they knock them straight into unconsciousness?
“Ah…” Liu Li, who had lost consciousness earlier, slowly woke in a daze. The first thing she saw was the female ghost huddled beside her, and she immediately let out a terrified scream.
“Hey, hey, don’t panic. And don’t faint just yet. There are a few things we need to clear up. You can faint afterward if you like.” Bai Qianzhou drew a talisman in the air and sent it into Liu Li’s body. In an instant, fainting was no longer an option.
“When you were alive, you stole from and bullied others. After your death, you possessed other people and harmed them. You’ll certainly be punished in the underworld. However, I have other matters to deal with and no time to take you there right now, so stay put and behave.” Bai Qianzhou looked at the female ghost and spoke calmly.
“No, no! I don’t want to go to the underworld. I don’t want to—”
Before she could finish, Bai Qianzhou sealed her inside a talisman.
Then Bai Qianzhou turned around and focused her gaze on Liu Li, asking softly, “Do you know what happened just now?”
“I…I don’t know.” Liu Li hurriedly shook her head, her heart filled with terror.
“You were possessed by a ghost. You nearly—”
“Little sister.” Pei Yanlin hurriedly interrupted her, unwilling to let Bai Qianzhou continue. Bai Qianzhou merely gave him a cool glance.
“Possessed by a ghost? Why did that happen?” Liu Li’s eyes widened slightly. Unease filled her face as she stared at Bai Qianzhou in trembling fear.
“What do you think?” Bai Qianzhou’s voice drifted out slowly. She casually tossed the apple core in her hand into a trash can, then took a larger apple from the small bag at her waist and bit into it with a crisp crunch.
“I don’t know. I don’t know anything.” Liu Li lowered her head, afraid to meet Bai Qianzhou’s gaze. Fear surged through her like a tide, threatening to drown her.
Under Bai Qianzhou’s scrutiny, she vaguely felt that none of the secrets in her heart could escape detection. It was as though her outer layer had been stripped away, leaving her exposed beneath the blazing sunlight.
“Little sister, why would you ask that?” Pei Yanlin’s voice held a trace of unease. Having struggled through the entertainment industry for years, he naturally understood the implication behind her words.
“Flies don’t gather around a seamless egg. Why do you think that female ghost possessed her instead of someone else? Because she…” Bai Qianzhou looked at Liu Li and spoke slowly.
“Shut up! Shut up! I said shut up!” Liu Li suddenly sprang to her feet. Her emotions erupted like a flood breaking through a dam as she screamed furiously at Bai Qianzhou.
Pei Yanlin stared at Liu Li in stunned disbelief. The woman who was usually so decisive and formidable had actually lost all composure, behaving like a shrew.
