Chapter 23: Want to see, especially want to see
"Not for the time being. Mr. Pei possesses a profound amount of accumulated merit; at most, this resentment will only cause him a bit of bad luck. In a couple of days, I will go over and take a look."
For now, the most urgent issue is the "peach blossom curse" plaguing Pei Yanlin. The darkness between his eyebrows, tinged with a bloody mist, is a sign of grave misfortune. If he is not saved, he might very well be dead by tomorrow night.
Bai Qianzhou sighed and leaned back on the sofa, head tilted. Why was life so busy after descending the mountain? When would her dream of a lazy, carefree life finally begin?
After dinner, Pei Yanlin went to bed early to ensure he was in perfect condition for tomorrow’s shoot. Bai Qianzhou, however, was pulled into their room by Bai Lu and Pei Hexuan.
"Zhouzhou, we just wanted to ask, is Yanlin’s situation easy to resolve?" Pei Hexuan whispered.
"It’s easy enough. The ghost will reveal herself tomorrow night. Since she has already harbored murderous intent, I’ll just give her a good beating and send her to the underworld," Bai Qianzhou said, suppressing a small yawn.
"It’s that simple?" Bai Lu blinked.
"Yes, it’s that simple. However, that ghost has been lusting after Pei Yanlin, so I doubt she will compromise easily. Hehe, there will be quite a spectacle to watch tomorrow."
Bai Qianzhou had originally intended to comfort Pei Hexuan and Bai Lu, but she accidentally let her true thoughts slip. Tomorrow, that ghost would attempt to force herself upon Pei Yanlin—it was a spectacle she absolutely could not miss! She wanted to see it; she really, really wanted to see it.
"Ahem, well, Zhouzhou, your Uncle Pei and I are truly worried. Could we go with you tomorrow?" Seeing her husband’s signal, Bai Lu quickly chimed in.
"As long as you aren’t busy, I don’t mind," Bai Qianzhou shrugged. After all, it wasn't her own drama she was watching.
"Great, great. Zhouzhou, go get some rest now." Bai Lu and Pei Hexuan waved her off, urging her to go back and sleep.
The next morning, after breakfast, Pei Yanlin watched in confusion as his parents pushed their luggage toward his car.
"Mom, Dad, what are you doing?"
"We’re going with Zhouzhou. You’ll be so busy, and it would be so boring for her to be alone at the hotel," Bai Lu said with a beaming smile.
Pei Yanlin pouted; their favoritism was becoming far too obvious.
Upon reaching their destination, Pei Yanlin rushed off to work, while Bai Qianzhou holed up in the hotel. Pei Hexuan and Bai Lu had wanted to take her out for a stroll, but she refused. With such beautiful weather, why wouldn't she just stay in the hotel and play dead? They didn't force her, choosing instead to stay and keep her company.
Pei Hexuan took out his laptop to work on the side, while Bai Lu sat with Bai Qianzhou, watching television and occasionally popping a piece of sliced fruit into her mouth. Even lunch was ordered directly to the room by Pei Hexuan.
"She’s here!" Bai Qianzhou suddenly leapt to her feet, her eyes sparkling with anticipation. She darted toward the door like an arrow, leaning forward with her ears pricked, like a keen leopard ready to catch the slightest movement.
Outside the door stood Pei Yanlin, just finishing his busy day of work.
He had been looking forward to seeing Bai Qianzhou, but that expectation was interrupted the moment his manager, Liu Li, appeared.
Liu Li smiled faintly, her expression veiled with a hint of subtle urgency. "Yanlin, I have some things to discuss with you. Do you have a moment?"
"Right now?" Pei Yanlin frowned; he hadn't seen his sister all afternoon.
"Yes, it will only take a moment." Liu Li’s smile was as it always was, yet it carried an uncanny, sinister edge.
"Alright, then."
Perhaps it was because Liu Li had been by his side helping him with everything since he entered the entertainment industry, but Pei Yanlin opened the door without a shred of suspicion. As he wondered what he should take Bai Qianzhou and the others out to eat, he remained completely unaware of the greedy, predatory gaze Liu Li fixed upon him from behind.
