Pei Hexuan and Bai Lu were discussing renovating the house. Standing in the courtyard, Bai Qianzhou gazed up at the villa shrouded in black mist.

The golden glow of merit surrounding Pei Hexuan was so dazzling it nearly blinded her. Such a glow could only be possessed by someone who had accumulated immense merit over several lifetimes.

But then, where had all the dense misfortune surrounding the house come from?

With the misfortune here added to her own, Bai Qianzhou had been having the worst luck imaginable ever since she arrived.

“Who are you?” a deep voice asked.

Bai Qianzhou turned and saw a flamboyant young man sizing her up. He wore a pink shirt, smoky eye makeup, and glittering gold in his hair.

“Can’t you tell? I’m a Taoist priest.” Bai Qianzhou raised a hand, showing him the patched robe she was wearing.

“What is that? Cosplay?” Pei Yanlin looked disdainfully at her tattered robe.

Bai Qianzhou tilted her head, her face full of confusion.

Pei Yanlin paid her no further attention and hurried into the house. Why was this little girl here? He would have to ask Dad.

Once inside, he collapsed onto the sofa, utterly exhausted. After taking photographs all day, he felt as though he had been worked to death.

Bai Qianzhou followed him in and sat down nearby. Her eyes shone as she stared at him. She picked up an apple from the table and began crunching away at it.

“You...” Pei Yanlin glared at Bai Qianzhou.

“Sir, would you like me to tell your fortune? Five hundred per reading, fair prices for everyone. If it isn’t accurate, you don’t have to pay!” Bai Qianzhou looked at him with a bright smile.

“Little girl, how old are you? Are you even an adult yet? And you’re already out here deceiving people? Spreading superstition? Believe me, I’ll call the police and have you arrested.” Pei Yanlin glared at Bai Qianzhou in annoyance.

“Smack!”

Bai Qianzhou said nothing, but Pei Yanlin received a solid slap on the back of the head.

“Ow! Dad, why did you hit me?” Pei Yanlin covered his head and turned toward Pei Hexuan behind him, his face full of grievance.

“That was getting off lightly. What is it? You wanted to call the police to arrest your little sister just now. Do you want to call them to arrest your father too?” A trace of displeasure showed in Pei Hexuan’s eyes, while his voice carried a hint of helplessness.

“When did I ever... Wait, little sister? Mom’s daughter has been found?” Pei Yanlin had been about to defend himself, but then he suddenly grasped what his father had said. He stared at Bai Qianzhou in astonishment, his eyes filled with disbelief.

“That’s right. She’s your mother’s biological daughter, Bai Qianzhou. We’ve already done the DNA test. Qianqian, this is your second brother, Pei Yanlin.” Pei Hexuan shot his son a glare.

Pei Yanlin’s eyes widened in shock.

Their mother’s daughter was actually a little fortune-telling charlatan?

“Oh, right, Dad. How is Mom?” Pei Yanlin suddenly remembered that he had come back to see Bai Lu.

“Don’t worry. I’m perfectly fine now.” Bai Lu’s light, cheerful voice drifted down from upstairs. A moment later, she appeared, her face radiant with smiles.

“Mom, you’re really all right?” Pei Yanlin excitedly bounded over to Bai Lu and looked her up and down.

“I’m fine now. Completely fine. I feel wonderfully relaxed. But your father is still worried, so he’s taking me for another examination tomorrow,” Bai Lu said gently.

“It’s best to have a thorough checkup.” Pei Yanlin approved of his father’s decision.

“Qianqian, you said you wanted to tell Little Lin’s fortune just now. Did you see something wrong with him?” Pei Hexuan turned his gaze toward Bai Qianzhou, his tone noticeably gentler.

Pei Yanlin stared at his father in surprise. It was the first time he had realized that Dad could be so gentle. His voice had even become soft and sweet.

“Mm-hmm. Send me five hundred.” Bai Qianzhou nodded lightly, a mischievous smile playing across her face.

“Wait, Sister, we’re family. You’re still charging me?” Pei Yanlin curved his lips as he stared at Bai Qianzhou.

“Of course. Even brothers have to settle their accounts clearly. Five hundred, in cash!” Bai Qianzhou held the apple in one hand and raised the other high, palm facing Pei Yanlin, her tone firm.
