Qu Bainian clasped her jaw from behind and bent down to kiss her lips. "When have you ever been unresponsive in front of me? And when have you ever told me to let go, hmm?"

He bit her lip gently, his burning breath slowly eroding her sanity.

Chen Su was forced to bury her face into the sofa cushion, forgetting even to struggle.

Tonight, Qu Bainian was unusually dominant.

Chen Su’s mind was hazy; the words she had wanted to say at first, about being tired of playing along, were completely cast aside.

...

At four in the morning, Chen Su was almost pulled out of the water, limp and draped over the edge of the bed.

Instinctively, she turned over and sat up, immediately spotting the man standing on the balcony, talking on the phone.

Qu Bainian had his back to her.

"I only see her as a sister," came the cold, emotionless voice into Chen Su’s ear—she couldn’t help but listen—"In my eyes, there’s no other possibility between us."

The last remnants of warmth in Chen Su’s heart vanished at that moment.

Just a sister.

Qu Bainian always knew exactly how to stir her feelings for him, only to cruelly crush them again.

He would lift her to the clouds, then throw her down harshly.

When Qu Bainian finished his call and returned to the bedroom, Chen Su had already closed her eyes.

He stood by the bed for a long time before finally moving away and leaving the room.

Chen Su opened her eyes and couldn’t fall back asleep.

...

The next day, Chen Su appeared early at the studio.

When Wen Zhi arrived, Chen Su had already completed six quick sketches in a row.

She rubbed her eyes. "No way. What time did you get here?"

"I don’t know," Chen Su put down her pencil, "Maybe before dawn?"

"Are you crazy?"

Four years ago, Chen Su had been admitted to the Hong Kong University Academy of Fine Arts with the highest score in her major. Everyone who knew her said she was an absolute good girl.

Not only did she look gentle, but her personality was also obedient—a true little white rabbit.

Wen Zhi only discovered Chen Su’s rebellious streak after spending time with her; it was just as strong as hers.

No wonder they got along so well.

She picked up the sketches and frowned immediately. "Su Su, are you unhappy? Why do your drawings look so heavy in color?"

Anyone who has studied art knows that when an artist paints with emotion, their brushstrokes become especially heavy.

Especially when those emotions are negative.

Chen Su was silent for two seconds before replying softly, "Do you know anyone renting out apartments? I might have to move out of my house and need to rent a place in advance."

"Moving out?" Wen Zhi was confused. "Why move out when you’re living fine at home?"

"Shen Zhiwei is back."

"Ah?"

Wen Zhi was the only child of Mr. Wen, and because of poor academic results in high school, Mr. Wen had paid for her to transfer to the same school as Chen Su, through which they became friends.

Wen Zhi was well aware of Chen Su’s feelings for Qu Bainian.

"Well, she’s back, so what," sensing Chen Su’s low mood, she put her arm around her shoulder. "Sis, I just bought a new car today. Come on, let’s go play some billiards!"

To help Chen Su take her mind off things, Wen Zhi drove her Kawasaki to a club.

During that time, Song Mingyu called, but Chen Su didn’t answer.

Wen Zhi raised an eyebrow. "Song Mingyu got into Hong Kong University because of you. If you don’t pick up, he’ll definitely try everything to reach you."

"If he wants to find me, let him try."

Chen Su’s mind was filled with Qu Bainian’s words from last night; she had no energy to deal with Song Mingyu.

"Sweetheart," Wen Zhi missed a shot and stood up, patting Chen Su’s shoulder, "Don’t forget your good girl image. If Song Mingyu finds out, you won’t be able to get out of it. You should call him back."

"If he finds out, so be it," Chen Su replied coldly, "I never planned to marry him anyway."

Chen Su was not afraid at all of her good-girl act being exposed.

After all, she was about to leave the Qu family.

She no longer had to please Mr. and Mrs. Qu, nor worry about being sent to an orphanage.

Even Song Mingyu, she could ignore.

Wen Zhi leaned on the edge of the table, sighing, "Su Su, there are plenty of fish in the sea. Why are you so stubborn? You know Qu Bainian won’t upset Aunt Qu and Uncle Qu just for you."

Chen Su gripped the cue stick so tightly her knuckles turned white.

It wasn’t that he wouldn’t; it just wasn’t worth it.

Qu Bainian had received the highest elite education since childhood. Politely put, he was a well-mannered gentleman born into a wealthy family; frankly, he calculated every situation for profit and loss.

People like him were born without needing love.

Even if love existed in his life, it only accounted for ten percent.

Trying to win the love of such a man was nothing short of a fairy tale.

Unable to make the shot, Chen Su lost patience and threw down the cue stick.

"Boring."

She lit a cigarette and glanced out the floor-to-ceiling window at Wen Zhi’s car. "Why don’t you lend me your car for a bit?"

Wen Zhi raised an eyebrow and tossed her the keys. "You taking me? Perfect, let’s go for a drive."

"Sure," Chen Su took the keys and headed out. "Just don’t mind if I drive fast."

She left the billiard hall and drove the car out of the parking spot.

As she turned the car around, a black Red Flag state car suddenly blocked her path.

The man stepped out, his face dark and stormy.
