Chapter 29: Only a Minor Injury
"Wait!"
Boom—
No sooner had Lei Wuxie shouted than Hua Qinmo’s vines tore the door straight off its hinges. Lin Yifeng shielded Qiao Xin, casting a sharp glare at Hua Qinmo.
"Warning! Warning! Illegal destruction of private property. Please surrender immediately!"
Security robots swarmed in from all directions.
Qiao Xin: ...
Is interstellar security always this efficient?
She felt a flush of embarrassment, feeling like someone completely ignorant of the law.
"Who are you people? What do you think you’re doing?" The Wen family had also been startled.
As soon as Liu Goushen saw Lin Yifeng, he sneered, "Lin Yifeng, this is a family matter. Are you really trying to interfere?"
"A family matter? Did you marry into the Wen family?" Lin Yifeng scoffed.
The Wen family held their son-in-law in high regard, yet they hadn't been able to force him into a matrilocal marriage—it was the thing he was most proud of. And yet, the Liu family was even worse than the Wen family!
"Hah, if I say it’s a family matter, then it’s a family matter!" Liu Goushen glared at him with disgust. If it weren't for Lin Yifeng’s superior background, given their similar talent and aptitude, it wasn't certain who would be better!
Wasn't he supposed to be dying?
Why was he still alive?
"Get lost. This has nothing to do with you. Or would you rather step outside and settle this with a fight?" Lin Yifeng said with disdain.
"You!" Liu Goushen was furious, but fighting was prohibited in the residential zone. He could only clench his fists and roar at Wen Zhiliu, "You bitch, tell them yourself! Isn't this a family matter?"
Wen Zhiliu lay on the ground, struggling to catch a glimpse of Qiao Xin. The words of submission and endurance died in her throat. She had never imagined that her own family would turn on her so violently, offering not a single chance to explain, only insults and abuse.
After years of suffering in silence, she realized for the first time that her yielding had only earned her their ugly, twisted faces.
"Injury detected. Everyone, please stay away from the wounded!"
The security robots suddenly turned toward the room and charged straight in. The Wen family’s expressions shifted, and they began shouting at Wen Zhiliu.
"You brat, tell these security robots to leave!"
"You bitch! If you want to die, go die somewhere else!"
"Little sister, you have a fiancé as good as your brother-in-law, don’t do anything stupid!"
But Wen Zhiliu only looked at Qiao Xin. Qiao Xin’s expression was cold—so cold that the faint glimmer of hope in her heart began to dim.
"Wen Zhiliu, I will only ask once: do you want to leave the Wen family?"
The cool, clear voice drifted over. It wasn't particularly loud, yet it sounded like a sacred chant in Wen Zhiliu’s heart.
The glimmer ignited into a blaze. She widened her eyes, and tears instantly blurred her vision.
"I do! I never want to have anything to do with them again! I want to break this engagement!"
No one expected that someone who had always been so gentle could scream with such deafening intensity.
"You dare!" Liu Goushen was the first to react. Wen Zhiliu was on the verge of qualifying as an intermediate nutritionist, and her temperament was easy to manipulate—he couldn't find a better wife. The Wen family had no one else of real ability, and they would always support him; he couldn't afford to lose this engagement. If word of today’s events got out, he would be completely ruined.
"Little I, is the stream live?" Qiao Xin asked in her mind.
"It is broadcasting across the entire network. Please continue." Little I had been recording since they first heard the bystanders gossiping; as soon as Qiao Xin mentioned streaming it, it immediately switched the recording to a live broadcast.
"Sir, please mind your behavior!" A security robot stepped directly between Liu Goushen and the others.
"Hua Qinmo, bring her out," Qiao Xin commanded after receiving the confirmation.
Hua Qinmo’s vines immediately scooped Wen Zhiliu up.
"Wen Zhiliu, if you dare to step one foot out of this house, don't you ever come back!" The man whose holographic projection Qiao Xin had seen earlier pointed at Wen Zhiliu and roared.
"I hope you remember those words," Wen Zhiliu said coldly.
She was clearly the most useful person in the family, even securing them a son-in-law with decent talent, so why was she the one treated with the most contempt? Beaten and scolded—was she really such a worthless person?
But today, watching them suck up to Liu Goushen while belittling her into nothingness, she finally understood: they only treated her that way because they knew she clung to family ties!
She valued family, so they thought she was easy to control!
But now, the cage built under the guise of family had been shattered by their own hands.
She didn't want them anymore!
"Abusing a woman—the Star Brain will punish you for this!" Lei Wuxie declared with righteous indignation, making the Wen family stumble back.
He looked at Liu Goushen. "You have S-rank aptitude, yet you beat the weak. A person like you is unworthy of the military. I will file a request with the Star Brain to have you reassigned to an exploration team."
Liu Goushen froze, then said in terror, "On what grounds?"
"Then you can go to the reclamation team instead," Lei Wuxie said coldly.
Liu Goushen went limp instantly. His eyes fell on Wen Zhiliu, and he immediately knelt and kowtowed.
"A-Liu, please plead for me! I’m willing to break the engagement!"
Their family had finally produced a genius like him; he couldn't be sent to such dangerous places!
"You can both submit the application to the Star Brain together. I will consider it once I’ve confirmed it," Wen Zhiliu said, her heart softening after all. As long as they stopped bothering her, letting them off wasn't impossible.
"I’m applying to the Star Brain right now!" For the sake of his future, Liu Goushen immediately filed to dissolve the engagement.
Wen Zhiliu scoffed and confirmed it.
"Mr. Wen, Mrs. Wen, let’s file for a severance of kinship."
Mrs. Wen’s eyes darted around, and she said softly, "A-Liu, you know how your father is. It’s just his temper. Besides, what grudge between father and daughter can’t be resolved overnight? It was all just words spoken in the heat of the moment!"
Although she didn't know who Qiao Xin and her companions were, the fact that they could subdue Liu Goushen and force him to break the engagement meant they had to be powerful! The Wen family was failing; how could she pass up this opportunity? How could they possibly sever ties?
"Since Mrs. Wen is unwilling, then let’s wait for the Star Brain’s judgment," Wen Zhiliu said, her expression darkening as she realized their true intentions.
Her parents had never loved her; that was a brutal fact. Why should she still have expectations?
"A-Liu, you!" Mrs. Wen was stunned, unable to understand why her usual tactics weren't working.
At that moment, Wen Zhiliu fainted. Qiao Xin looked at them coldly.
"You had better pray that her injuries aren't serious!"
With that, she took everyone to the nearest hospital. She wasn't familiar with interstellar hospitals, so Lin Yifeng handled all the procedures, ensuring the injury verification report was filed as well.
Watching Wen Zhiliu being placed into a treatment pod, Qiao Xin frowned as she looked at the report.
"This only counts as a Level 10 minor injury?"
Lin Yifeng took a look. "No broken bones, no bleeding, just multiple contusions. It only qualifies as a minor injury."
Qiao Xin didn't press further; she went to her light computer to look up the criteria for interstellar injury assessment.
As it turned out, even broken bones only counted as minor injuries...
Interstellar medical technology was so advanced that even missing limbs could be healed...
"Ahem, Xin-Xin, trying to sue the Wen family for abuse isn't going to work..." Lin Yifeng coughed awkwardly as he saw her browsing the interstellar laws.
Qiao Xin felt as if all her strength had been drained.
"The Star Brain will only sentence them to three months of detention, and they can pay a fine to commute the sentence," Lei Wuxie added, twisting the knife.
Qiao Xin: ...
