Volume One, Chapter 28: Dimensional Suppression

Xie Zi'an looked at me with undisguised smugness. Before I could say a word, he was already too impatient to wait.
“Go on, say it! They say a son never finds his mother ugly. Don’t tell me you’re embarrassed to say what your mother does for a living? I really didn’t expect that even after getting together with Feifei, you still wouldn’t tell her anything about your family. Are you ashamed?”
I smiled. “What do I have to hide? I’m simply low-key. My mother’s identity is far too deserving of respect. She’s been on television countless times. Your mother is a major businesswoman, but tell me—has she ever been on TV?”
Xie Zi’an let out a cold laugh. “Do you really think I don’t know what your mother actually does? Do I have to say it myself?”
“Fine, then I’ll say it. My mother is actually… a city beautician!”
Xie Zi’an froze, his smile instantly hardening. He blurted out instinctively, “What the hell?”
“My mother is a city beautician! She rises early and returns late every day, working through wind and rain, using her diligent hands to keep the city clean. She appears on television all the time—just usually without her face being shown, or only for a fleeting moment.”
Xie Zi’an sneered. “Ha! Picking up trash isn’t nearly as grand as you make it sound.”
“Then let me ask you this: What contribution has your so-called tycoon mother made to the development of modern society? Did she donate money? Improve benefits for her employees? Since there are so many people here, why don’t you tell us the name of your mother’s company?”
“…”
Xie Zi’an wilted at once. He glanced around and saw that quite a few people were pointing their phones at us, snapping pictures. Some of them were even recording. Afraid the matter would get out of hand, he stammered helplessly, unable to say a word.
I continued kicking him while he was down. “You’re a cheating scumbag who betrayed Feifei with her best friend, and you still think you’re in the right? Don’t think having a little money means you can do whatever you want. Get lost!”
Several girls among the onlookers couldn’t resist joining in, taunting him with sarcastic remarks.
“So he’s a scumbag! He even cheated with his girlfriend’s best friend. He’s worse than a dog.”
“If you’re so capable, tell us the name of your mother’s company!”
Amid the chorus of ridicule, Xie Zi’an’s face shifted from livid to ashen. He glared viciously at me.
“Just you wait!”
After leaving behind that threat, he slunk away under the pointing fingers and mocking laughter, disappearing from sight before long.
Once the farce was over, I felt as though the world had finally returned to peace. When I turned around, I happened to meet a pair of limpid autumn eyes.
Lin Feifei’s almond-shaped eyes narrowed slightly, their gaze rippling with a deep, mysterious light.
“I know I’m handsome, but you don’t have to stare at me like that, do you?”
Lin Feifei smiled sweetly. “I honestly didn’t expect you to tear that scumbag apart so thoroughly. Your mind works incredibly fast. You completely crushed him on another level!”
“For a man like him, a slap across the face would have been far too gentle!”

Lin Feifei burst out laughing, though a trace of worry remained on her face. After hesitating for a moment, she said, “He’ll probably try to cause trouble for you at the wedding tomorrow. Maybe we shouldn’t go.”
I lifted the shopping bags in my hand. “We can skip it, but the gifts you gave me aren’t refundable!”
“Damn it! Then let’s go after all. To be honest, I’m rather curious to see how you’ll deal with that scumbag.”
“Actually, one thing that scumbag said really hit home.”
Lin Feifei raised her brows. “What did he say?”
“He said I was living off a woman.”
Lin Feifei stared at me in surprise, then hesitated. “Don’t take what he said to heart!”
“He wasn’t wrong. I really can’t afford clothes this expensive.”
Lin Feifei’s face flushed red. Anxious, she stumbled over her words. “No, no, that’s not what I meant—”
Before she could finish, I interrupted her.
“He called me a kept man, which was obviously another way of saying I’m a pretty boy. That’s recognition of my looks!”
“…”
Lin Feifei was torn between laughter and exasperation. She clenched her little pink fist and waved it shyly at me.
“If you keep scaring me like that, I really will hit you.”
“A hit is affection, a scolding is love, and when love runs deep, it comes with a kick!”
Lin Feifei relaxed her fist, rolled her eyes, and snorted. “I can’t be bothered with you. Just don’t expect me to keep pretending with you tomorrow.”
I put on a hesitant expression. “How exactly are we supposed to pretend? Holding hands, putting an arm around each other’s shoulders… You won’t get angry, will you?”
Lin Feifei waved her hand dismissively and said cheerfully, “Of course not. It’s only acting. Just don’t overdo it.”
“So there won’t be any bedroom scenes, right?”
“…”
Lin Feifei shot me an exasperated look. “No! What are you thinking?”
I pretended to sigh in relief. “Good. Good.”
Perhaps Lin Feifei felt that her charm had been “insulted.” She glared at me with indignation.
“What? You sound as if you’re the one losing out!”

“Not at all. I was just wondering what position I should take to meet the challenge if there were one.”
“Get lost!”
Lin Feifei finally couldn’t continue the conversation and ended it with a choice expletive.
…………………………
The next day was Saturday. I hadn’t even gotten out of bed when Lin Feifei called.
“Hey, Yu Bin, are you ready? I’m outside your residential compound.”
“I haven’t even gotten up yet! Just come straight upstairs!”
I gave her my apartment number, then hurriedly threw on my clothes and rushed out of the bedroom. One glance at the living room left me devastated.
I had spent half the previous day shopping with her, and by the time we returned that evening, my legs felt as though they were about to break. I hadn’t bothered to clean up. I never expected her to conduct a surprise inspection first thing in the morning.
Afraid it would ruin the image she had of me, I scrambled frantically to tidy the place. Unfortunately, I didn’t have much time. Before long, a knock sounded at the door.
My heart lurched, but I steeled myself and went to open it.
The moment I pulled the door open, I was utterly stunned. The beauty standing before me took my breath away with both her appearance and her figure.
Her long, soft black curls cascaded over her shoulders like silk, setting off her slender, snow-white neck. Her delicate oval face was adorned with exquisite makeup. Her brows curved like willow leaves, her eyes were bright and clear, and her thin lips were as vivid and tempting as flower petals.
She wore a white, elegant dress in the Chanel style. The V-shaped neckline offered a hazy glimpse of what lay beneath, while her two long, fair legs were boldly exposed to the air. A stirring sensation rose from deep within me.
Seeing my expression, Lin Feifei pursed her lips.
“What are you staring at? Never seen a beautiful woman before?”
I reluctantly pulled my gaze away from the scenery at her neckline and smiled.
“I’ve seen beautiful women before, but never one as beautiful as you.”
The corners of Lin Feifei’s mouth curved upward despite herself.
“You certainly have a sweet mouth. Although what you said was perfectly accurate, could you stop focusing only on my good points? I do have flaws.”
I nodded. “That’s true. For example, like all women, you enjoy hearing lies. You’re no exception in that regard.”
“…”
