Chapter 38 One More Round
"You know how to practice medicine too?"
Jiang Chongsheng asked in surprise as he walked beside him.
"I know a thing or two!"
Zhao Rui was speaking the truth. He didn't have much talent for studying medicine, but since he had taken a master of traditional Chinese medicine as his teacher, he naturally had to pick up a trick or two.
Over the years, he had also learned some rudimentary skills in using internal energy to heal injuries, treat ailments, and provide emergency rescue.
"Classmate, could you please help!"
The counselor, Liu Jie, had just graduated from university herself. With a gentle appearance and a slender figure, she belonged to the delicate southern beauty archetype.
Suddenly encountering a student fainting, she was flustered for a moment.
Hearing that a student knew medicine, she immediately clutched at it like a drowning man grasping a straw.
"I'll do my best! Please contact the accompanying doctor first."
"I'll contact them right away!"
Liu Jie hurriedly pulled out her phone and made the call.
Seeing her contact the school doctor, Zhao Rui crouched down, gently lifted the fair wrist of the female student, and placed his fingers lightly on her pulse. His sword-like eyebrows furrowed slightly. Within a moment, he reached out to support the girl's back, his fingers rapidly tapping across her body in succession.
Then, he delivered a single palm strike to the center of her back.
This scene startled the counselor who was still on the phone. Just as she was about to ask anxiously, the instructor stopped her, mouthing silently: "A martial arts student!"
The counselor paused, and then didn't move rashly.
Just as Zhao Rui's palm struck down, after no more than a few breaths, the girl's eyelashes fluttered twice, and she dazedly opened her eyes.
"She's awake, she's awake!"
The surrounding students immediately cried out in astonishment.
"Thank you, classmate!"
The counselor let out a heavy sigh of relief. This didn't just mean the girl was revived; it also removed the heavy burden weighing on her own mind.
Having just become a counselor, if anything happened to a student, she would inevitably face disciplinary action.
"You're welcome, Teacher. Her constitution is a bit weak, and she probably can't handle such a long trek. She needs some quiet rest."
Zhao Rui said with a smile.
"Thank you. Which martial arts class are you in?"
The counselor tucked a lock of hair falling beside her ear and asked.
"Well, I'm in your class!"
Zhao Rui scratched his head, feeling a bit awkward.
"Ah!"
The counselor's dainty cherry lips parted slightly, her delicate eyes widening in utter surprise. She had thought Zhao Rui was just a passing martial arts student.
"Aren't you a mar—"
Before she could finish her sentence, a voice came from nearby: "The school doctor is here!"
Everyone hurriedly cleared a path, watching two accompanying medics jog over, anxiously crouched down, and performed a basic examination on the girl.
After a thorough check, the situation was much as Zhao Rui had described—merely physical exhaustion.
Once finished, the school doctor prescribed two bottles of nutrient solution, gave a few instructions, and left.
As soon as the doctor departed, both the counselor and the instructor breathed a sigh of relief.
"What are you all staring at? Start running again!"
The instructor lightly kicked the rear end of a nearby male student, reorganizing the formation.
Zhao Rui was about to run back into the ranks when he was called by the counselor Liu Jie, who said, "Please stay behind for a moment. We still need your help here."
Hearing this, Zhao Rui stopped his steps and walked over.
Liu Jie said, "The instructor mentioned you're a martial arts student. So..."
With that, she cast a slightly embarrassed glance at the fainting girl beside her, whose steps were still unsteady.
Zhao Rui caught on instantly and smiled, "Alright, I'll carry her on my back!"
Hearing this, Liu Jie instantly beamed and said, "Thank you for your hard work. I don't want anyone falling behind!"
"A small matter!"
Zhao Rui smiled, walked in front of the girl, and squatted down slightly.
The girl's pretty face blushed scarlet. After a brief hesitation, she climbed onto Zhao Rui's back, her hands gently wrapping around his shoulders.
"I'm not taking advantage of you, you know!"
Zhao Rui didn't rush to stand up, speaking quite bluntly instead.
Hearing this, the counselor couldn't help laughing, "I'll vouch for you."
"Fair enough!"
Zhao Rui reached back to support the girl's plump thighs, easily stood up, and took a few brisk steps to catch up with the moving formation.
"Mm..."
The girl felt a pair of warm palms securely pressing against her legs through the thin military training uniform, causing her pretty face to flush an even deeper crimson.
Seeing Zhao Rui carry the girl as if she weighed nothing at all, Liu Jie felt thoroughly reassured. She quickened her pace to follow, and the formation resumed its march toward the destination.
"What-level martial artist are you?"
Walking side by side, Liu Jie couldn't help asking out of curiosity.
"Level Five!"
"Ah? Why didn't you apply to a martial arts academy?"
"My grades weren't high enough."
"Oh, what a pity. I just took over and am not very familiar with all of you. Which dormitory are you in?"
Liu Jie didn't probe further into that topic—after all, it involved personal privacy—and instead casually asked about a few trivial matters.
However, she didn't get to ask many trivial matters because she was too exhausted. After running for a little while, she was gasping for breath and couldn't even open her mouth.
Yet, as a counselor, she had to lead by example and persist; she couldn't let herself break down before the students did.
"Um, Teacher, actually I know a trick that can make your run a bit easier!"
Seeing her running while holding her stomach with irregular breathing, Zhao Rui spoke up.
"What trick?"
Liu Jie perked up instantly upon hearing this, and even the girl on Zhao Rui's back perked up her ears to listen.
"Well, I can hold your hand, Teacher, and pull you along as we run!"
"..."
Liu Jie paused, then shot Zhao Rui a playful, reproachful glare and said, "What kind of trick is that! You even dare to tease your teacher."
Zhao Rui laughed, "It's a proper method. If you don't believe me, ask the instructor."
Liu Jie glanced at the long formation and decisively rejected Zhao Rui's proposal. Even if the method worked, she wouldn't use it—holding hands between a teacher and a student, what would that look like?
"Ow, report to the instructor, I sprained my ankle!"
Not long after running, trouble struck the formation again as a female student fell to the ground, clutching her ankle in agony.
Enduring her own physical fatigue, Liu Jie hurried over, took a brief look, and then cast her gaze toward Zhao Rui.
"The capable should shoulder more burdens. Can you fix this?"
Zhao Rui set the girl off his back, walked over, squatted down, and examined the fallen girl's ankle. There was no obvious swelling; it was just a mild twist.
He told the girl, "Relax!"
Then, grasping her foot with a subtle application of force, he gave it a gentle twist, massaged her ankle briefly with his fingers, and said, "Alright, you can walk now, but take it slow!"
Hearing this, the girl on the ground hurriedly rotated her ankle. Sure enough, the pain was gone.
Delighted yet helpless, she said, "I don't know whether to thank you or not—I have to run again!"
Hearing her words, Zhao Rui smiled and said, "I can make it twist even worse! Want to try?"
"No way! Hehe, thank you!"
The girl quickly stood up with a smile and walked briskly forward, supported by her roommate.
Seeing the girl return at full health, the surrounding students were all astonished. When they heard that Zhao Rui had cured a sprained ankle with just a pull and a massage, they showered him with endless praise.
On the other side, seeing the sprained girl rejoin the ranks, Zhao Rui hoisted the girl on his back once more and started jogging.
Watching Zhao Rui's dashing back, Liu Jie couldn't help smiling. She hadn't expected such an interesting student in her class.
A Level Five martial artist!
Students like this rarely chose regular majors; they either applied to martial arts academies with slightly lower tier requirements or chose research fields related to martial arts.
Someone like him was truly rare.
She wondered what his plans were—had he given up on the path of martial arts?
Well, regardless, after the military training ended, she would have to make him the class monitor and give him some responsibilities!
Zhao Rui had no idea he had already been slated as the future class monitor by his counselor.
At this moment, he was enjoying the delicate strokes of the girl behind him—uh, wiping his sweat.
In truth, he hadn't produced much sweat. If not for the sake of tempering his physique, the circulation of his internal energy would have prevented him from sweating at all.
However, the female student on his back felt she ought to do something, so she kindly used the handkerchief on her wrist to dab at Zhao Rui's forehead.
"Ooh!"
This scene was caught by the students running behind, who immediately began hooting and teasing.
They didn't know Zhao Rui was a martial artist; they only knew he practiced medicine and had cured two students.
Seeing this,
